Goofs

The eponymous scar moves and often seems to disappear altogether throughout the film. As an example, when Tony and Manny are driving back from the Babylon Club, there are a number of headshots where Tony looks to his right to speak to Manny when his left cheek can clearly be seen with no trace of a scar. Sometimes it is seen below the outer corner of Tony's eye, sometimes it is below the center of his eye.

In the double cross-scene when Hector throws the chainsaw out the window, there is blood all over it. But in the next shot when Hector jumps out the window and lands on the floor with the chainsaw and when he is shown on the floor injured, the chainsaw is spotless and all the blood is gone.

After Tony and Manny finish talking to Omar for the first time and are about to leave the cafe, a man in a tan shirt and white pants is using the telephone in a booth in front of the cafe. As they walk away, the cafe owner asks where they're going, and Tony throws the apron at him and retires. The man is not in the telephone booth in the close-up shots of the cafe owner. There is a cut back to a wide-screen shot as they continue to walk away and the same man is back in the telephone booth.

When Tony and the guys are following the white car outside the United Nations building to blow it up remotely, there are two beer cans and two food containers on the dashboard of their car. In the exterior shots of Tony and the guys in the car, the beer can closest to Tony is partially crumpled. But in the interior shots of Tony's point of view, the crumpled beer can is perfectly straight and not crumpled. The beer can is crumpled in the exterior shots and undamaged in the interior shots.

When Tony is chained up to the shower curtain rod in the hotel room, how does he get free?

Immediately following the shoot-out in the nightclub, Tony and other customers run out, jump into cars from the valet parking lot and drive off. An impossibility - valet parking keys are always kept in a coded cabinet system that requires patrons to identify themselves; keys are never left in cars.

Near the end of the movie, Gina is using a Smith & Wesson Model 36 five-shot revolver to shoot at Tony, yet six shots are fired in this scene.

When Tony is with Omar and Sosa in Bolivia, Tony gripes about losing one out of nine loads due to drug interdiction in many forms, including what he calls "EC-2s". He is probably referring to the Navy's E2-C Hawkeye, a dual-turboprop radar interception aircraft. In addition, those Hawkeye flights were authorized to begin in March of 1982, months after the Bolivia meeting.

Tony is using an M16 with an M203 grenade launcher and a 30-round clip on full auto. The muzzle flash is greatly exaggerated in the movie. Tony also only changes the clip twice, even after he fired roughly 120 rounds.

At one point when Tony is driving his drunk friend home from a nightclub, the car is shown to have the steering wheel on the wrong side. Tony is driving and sitting on the right-hand side of the car.

The Citroen DS that Tony and his gang place a bomb under is a bad choice for such an escapade. About 15 seconds after the engine is switched off, this car, with a gasping sigh, automatically lowers on its suspension, leaving only about three total inches of ground clearance, insufficient to crawl under.

People, including characters in movies, sometimes make mistakes or have errors in judgment; that does not make it a "Goof". In fact, often the writers or director will have done it intentionally.

Extras during the riot stop "rioting" before they are off-screen.

After Tony shoots Hector after the chainsaw shootout, police sirens are heard, but they never become any louder, indicating it's just an added sound effect, and there aren't any real police cars on the way.

When Hector jumps out of the hotel and onto the landing, a bit of the ground moves, revealing it to be a crash mat.

During the shower/chainsaw scene, Tony fights with one of Hector's men, takes his pistol away, and shoots him. The pistol is supposed to be a semi-automatic 9mm Beretta 92, but when Tony fires a single shot, the hammer stays down, the slide never recoils, and no casing is ever ejected. The gun is clearly a single-shot prop gun.

The stuntman playing Hector falling through the window has a watch on his left hand. When the "real" Hector gets off the ground, his watch is back on the right hand.

USA Today boxes visible in background of scenes on Miami Beach early in the film, just after Tony leaves the government camp. USA Today did not begin service in Florida until the fall of 1982, while the scene takes place shortly after the April 1980 Mariel Harbor boat lift.

In the scene when Tony's tiger is first shown, there is a billboard in the background showing the "New Corvette". The first '84 Corvettes were not released until '83.

A blue third-generation Camaro is parked up the street from the Miami Beach hotel where the chainsaw scene occurs. The third-generation Camaros were made from 1982 to 1992, a full two years before this 1980 scene would have occurred.

A bullet squib on one of Hector's goons' chest goes off, without a sound effect, just before a cut to Chi Chi, who shoots him.

When Tony goes to see Elvira to talk about having kids, when he sits down in the chair, the reflections of stage lights can be seen in his sunglasses.

Reflections of the camera crew can be seen on Elvira's sunglasses as she and Tony are walking out of the car dealership.

In the original version, when the "police" were about to arrest Tony, they are helping him count the money (for the second time). The cameraman's thumb can be seen briefly.

When Mel and Tony are talking while sitting in The Babylon Club, the reflection of the camera lens can be seen in the mirror, just above a white drape.

The surface Hector defenestrates himself onto is clearly a stuntwork landing pad.

The exterior of Lopez Motors shows California fan palms, which do not grow in South Florida.

Sosa's helicopter from which Omar is executed shows an American aircraft registration number, not a Bolivian one.

During Tony's wedding, there are mountains seen through the trees. There are no mountains anywhere near Miami. This is because the Montana mansion's exteriors were filmed in Santa Barbara, California.

Shadow on the wall on the right as Montana is getting shouted at in his mother's kitchen.

When Tony is watching the birds on TV, he calls them pelicans, but they are actually flamingos.
