Fatherhood apparently has a way of slowing you down. Take Batman, for instance. He’s clearly not at his fittest in this new Amazon Prime animated film, in which he looks more like a burly lumberjack than a superhero, wearing dad jeans, a flannel shirt and a heavy beard. Fortunately, he’s not the hero tasked with saving Gotham City yet again in the Yuletide-set Merry Little Batman. That would be Damian, his eight-year-old son, who clearly takes after his old man when it comes to fighting supervillains.
Damian (voiced by Yonas Kibreab) displays the typical energy of a pre-adolescent, chasing his cat around the expansive confines of Wayne Manor as if they were in a Tom and Jerry cartoon. His father Bruce (Luke Wilson) is essentially retired, having gotten rid of all crime in Gotham City. But he’s still on call, meaning that when he gets a message...

‘Shadow And Bone’, ‘Glamorous’ & ‘Agent Elvis’ Among 5 Series Canceled By Netflix Amid Strike Impact
Exclusive: Netflix will not be going forward with more seasons of live-action series Shadow and Bone and Glamorous and adult animated comedies Agent Elvis, Farzar and Captain Fall.
The decision was made a week after the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike and a month and a half after the end of the WGA work stoppage as networks and platforms continue to evaluate the impact from the strike-related seven-month production shutdown.
While there had been a slew of series cancellations and un-renewals by linear networks and streamers during and immediately after the strikes, Netflix had largely refrained from making cancellation decisions during the past 6½ months while announcing a number of renewals, including One Piece (S2), Ginny & Georgia (S3 and S4); The Lincoln Lawyer (S3), Xo, Kitty (S2), Heartstopper (S2 and S3), The Night Agent (S2 picked up on the eve of the WGA strike), The Diplomat (S2), Fubar (S2), Sweet Magnolias...

For Camila Cabello, making new music is therapeutic. On May 26, Camila appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show where she opened up about her "crippling anxiety." She discussed how creating her third album "Familia"—which was released on April 8—helped her be more vulnerable when it came to her mental health. "At the beginning of this album I was having such a bad time mental health-wise," Camila said. "It was crippling anxiety that was really hard for me. I feel like because I was in that place, I isolated a lot." The "Don't Go Yet" singer explained that she felt like she needed to be "healed or in a better place" before she was...

Camila Cabello is bringing the colorful elements of her album Familia to an outer space concert, thanks to the music video for her pop-perfect Spanish song, “Hasta Los Dientes,” featuring Maria Becerra.
The video opens with a wide shot of a spaceship as an alien voice introduces Cabello and Becerra as Mars’ biggest stars. The intro makes a reference to soccer commentator Enrique “El Perro” Bermudez’s iconic kickoff line, “aficionados que viven la intensided del fútbol” (“fans who live the intensity of soccer”), but replaces soccer with “interplanetary concert...

Met Gala: slayed. New album: dropped. Mental health: under control. Camila Cabello’s 2022 has been filled with healing and highs as she continues to reel in the success of her third album, Familia. The Spanglish LP was a mix of reggaetón, mariachi, and pop perfection, and it served as a real, introspective look into the “Boys Don’t Cry” singer’s life and psyche — and damn, Cabello’s proud of it.

In one way the Billboard 200 albums chart for the tracking week of April 8 through April 14 was incredibly busy with four new albums debuting in the top-10. In another way, though, it was an unusually slow week where Lil Durk‘s “7220” was able to return to the top spot with only 47,000 album units, which is actually down 8 from last week. It’s his second week at number-one: he topped the chart four weeks ago and spent the last three weeks at number-two. Read more about this week’s chart here at Billboard.com.
Album units are calculated by combining traditional record sales, individual track sales, and streaming performance on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music. As is often the case for hip-hop, the vast majority of Lil Durk’s units were achieved through streaming, with sales contributing less than 1,000 to that total. Last week’s chart-topping album, Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ “Unlimited Love,...

Just one day after releasing her third studio album, "Familia," Camila Cabello appeared on "Saturday Night Live" to treat fans to not just one, but two performances of songs off her new album. While her performance of "Bam Bam" was terrific, we were not prepared for just how hard Cabello and Willow Smith rocked out on their debut live performance of their collab, "Psychofreak." Camila Cabello is healing, growing, and learning from her past — that’s the message of her third solo album. At first glance, the title Familia appears to be a misnomer, as many of its songs are inspired by heartbreak. But listen closer and you’ll hear a relatable journey into what it’s like to make a lover a part of your family, only to have to say goodbye to them. Musically, the album is an imperfect yet revealing mosaic of Cabello’s Cuban-Mexican heritage–of growing up on cumbia,...

Chile’s Zapik Films, co-producer of “My Tender Matador” starring Alfredo Castro, has boarded the Bolivian political thriller “Family” (“Familia”) by Marcelo Landaeta, which participates in Sanfic Industria’s Santiago Fiction Lab.
Landaeta describes his debut feature as a thriller set in the late ‘70s when Bolivia is in the grip of a military dictatorship.
“It is precisely in this universe, plagued by terror and violence, when the lives of four people intersect on the eve of a coup,” Landaeta explained, who likens his script’s structure to that of Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s seminal “Amores Perros” where four seemingly disparate stories are linked to one incident. He also draws on the aesthetics of Argentina’s Gaspar Noe and his irreverent and fantastical vision in “Enter the Void” as well as Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Boogie Nights” as a visual reference for the production design of “Family.”

Mexico-based, El Salvador-born Tatiana Huezo has quickly emerged in the world of documentary as one of its most talented and thought-provoking directors of her generation.
As she finally jumps from documentary to fiction with the upcoming “Noche de Fuego,” a strong big fest candidate, the director delivered a three-hour masterclass at this week’s Swiss doc fest Visions de Réel.
Drilling down on her award-winning features and short films, the director expounded on her own understanding of filmmaking as a personal journey in a talk that took a chronological take on her career. Five key points made by Huezo:
“Retrato de Familia” (2005)
Having studied at Mexico City’s celebrated Ccc film school, Huezo initially worked as a Dp, battling to find her place as one of Mexico’s then few women cinematographers -a story shared by so many women in the industry. “It was a male job in a male world,...

Are you ready for a story? About a boy who puts his family in a bunker against their will? Then let me tell you about “John and the Hole,” the feature directorial debut of artist Pascual Sisto that debuted at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival after initially being selected for the 2020 Cannes Film Festival in May. This Star Trek: Picard article contains spoilers for Season 1, and spoilers for Stranger Things Season 2.
When Stranger Things Season 2 hit Netflix in 2017, I learned to hate the binge-model. Before I could catch my breath, I was already aware that it would take the entire season for Eleven to reunite with the boys, and I felt heartbroken. I didn’t mind the spoilers, I was just more frustrated that there wasn’t time to process all the twists and turns. From that point on (and maybe before) I rebelled, sometimes loudly, against the Netflix binge-model. For the most part, my cries for a more traditional release schedule were somehow heard. I mean, you can’t imagine either season of The Mandalorian dropping all at once. Similarly, Star Trek: Discovery certainty benefits from the weekly episode drop, giving fans plenty to talk about and think about until the next week.

When “All in the Family” debuted Jan. 12, 1971, on CBS, it was exactly the TV show America needed — though America didn’t realize it at the time.
Norman Lear and Bud Yorkin had taped two ABC pilots of the script, both starring Carroll O’Connor and Jean Stapleton, starting in 1968. But ABC was reluctant to commit; as Lear told Variety’s Army Archerd, it was “too controversial.”
Lear and Yorkin took the show to CBS, which surprisingly bought it.
The show was carefully tested for a long time. On July 22, 1970 — six months before the debut — Variety asked CBS president Robert Wood why the network wasn’t trumpeting the new show. He said, “Frankly, we’re still not sure how to introduce this one to the public … it might just be best to go on with no fanfare, and then prepare ourselves for the explosion.”

The Addams Family might be mysterious and spooky and altogether ooky, but the exploits of the gothic clan have always been aimed at an all-ages audience, from the classic 1960s sitcom to the movies of the 90s to the recent animated reboot. Tim Burton’s upcoming reimagining of Gomez, Morticia and their kids, however, may make a major change to the franchise and come with an R-rating.
This is the surprising slice of intel that’s arrived from insider Daniel Richtman, who shared on his Patreon page that he’s heard a rumor on the grapevine that the Addams Family live-action TV series, which the aforementioned Batman director was revealed to be working on last October, will be aimed at a mature audience and rated R.

What, then, are some of the television shows, movies, and other material that have been made available on the platform over the last few days?

Family Video is shutting down all of its 248 video-rental locations across the U.S., with the 42-year-old chain citing the Covid pandemic as the final blow to a business already decimated by the rise of streaming.
The company, which at its peak operated some 800 locations, on Tuesday announced the decision to shut down. The last day for movie rentals at Family Video stores is Wednesday, Jan. 6, but they will remain open until they sell all their inventory — which includes DVDs, Blu-ray discs, popcorn, gumball machines, shelves “and everything else.”
“While we have faced digital competition from Netflix and others for years, nothing has been as devastating to our business as Covid-19,” Keith Hoogland, CEO of Highland Ventures, the real estate company that owns Family Video, said in a statement. “The impact of Covid-19, not only in foot traffic but also in the lack of movie releases, pushed us to the end of an era.

Tim Burton and The Addams Family is an incredibly obvious combination that makes complete sense, so it didn’t come as much surprise when the filmmaker renowned for his Gothic aesthetic became attached to a small screen reboot of the property. The titular clan have been the subjects of countless adaptations since making their print debut in 1938, but something about Burton’s style makes his in-development series an exciting prospect regardless of how many times we’ve seen the characters before.
The Addams Family doesn’t have an official home as of yet, but the last we heard, Netflix were putting together a lucrative offer to have Burton set up shop on their platform. Illumination Entertainment and Universal currently hold the rights, but they’re focusing on the animated expansion of the brand, with the sequel to 2018’s surprise box office hit set to hit theaters next October.

Filmmakers from the peninsula have injected new life in the undead genre, bringing both a bit of a Midas and Lazarus touch to a mythology that has been exploited almost to death. Original storylines spanning wildly diverse settings, from the Joseon era to our troubled times and even dark Mad Max-style dystopian futures, in-depth character development, and a clear-eyed look at today’s societal fears have raised the biters back from the realm of putrid pop fiction.
