- TriviaThis show is often remembered for an incident in which Johnny Carson interrupted a taping session. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson (1962) with guest host Bob Newhart, Don Rickles accidentally broke the cigarette box on Carson's desk. When Carson returned to the show the next day, he discovered the broken box during taping. Carson took the broken box and a cameraman with him to the adjacent studio where Rickles' show was taped and teased him. This incident was played on Carson's annual specials and also on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (1992) on the day Carson died.
- GoofsIn the opening credits, CPO Sharkey is wearing his dress blues with gold stripes, In the opening of the first episode, when Chief Sharkey is reenlisting, he is shown with red stripes. Gold stripes were earned by having 12 continuous years of good conduct. Therefore, it wouldn't make sense for him to be wearing red stripes when he had already earned gold ones.

Featured review
Rickles was one of the funniest comedians ever. Find his standup. Find his every appearance on Tonight Show when Carson was still the host.
The series tried to channel his humor but failed. When he sounds off on recruits, it's funny. But the plot's are the typical sitcom idiocy, dull and unoriginal. And none of the other actors can hold up against Rickles, not even be decent straight men.
The quality of TV, especially comedy, was so low back then pre cable and pre streaming that people were willing to sit though mediocrity for the gems that were Rickles's comedy. No one would sit through that today.
