- Deputy U.S. Marshal Nathan Pearce: When you tell an Indian things will be a certain way and then they're not, he's inclined to think maybe you crossed him.
- John Deakin: [Speaking to Marica] When a man is a killer, arsonist, a cheat and a coward, it's hardly surprising if he turns out to be a liar as well.
- Gov. Richard Fairchild: Thank God we didn't lose those medical supplies.
- John Deakin: Not much good without a doctor.
- Deputy U.S. Marshal Nathan Pearce: [to Deakin] You're a doctor, or so you said.
- John Deakin: [angry] Not anymore, I'm not!
- Rev. Peabody: Simple charity to your fellow man.
- John Deakin: [pointing at Pearce] My 'fellow man' is about to hang me!
- John Deakin: Dr. Molineaux is dead, two of the Major's best officers are missing, and we can't get through to Myrtle... Nobody heard anything, nobody saw anything, and nobody knows anything. It can only get better.
- Gov. Richard Fairchild: Well, maybe they were accidents after all. And we just might have seen the end of it.
- [5 seconds later, another fatal 'accident' occurs]
- Deputy U.S. Marshal Nathan Pearce: I reckon we come down to it, Deakin.
- John Deakin: You have a choice. You could throw that gun down.
- Deputy U.S. Marshal Nathan Pearce: I don't think I can do that.
