Two good actors :Bernard Fresson and Claude Rich ; a good idea : the computers forecast a bleak future ; questionnaires are sent to mister-man-on-the- street who complains about a materialistic society where nobody takes the time to live his/her life ; so let's sell them an imaginary one: everyone can get a double who can act as "one has always wishes "; it's also a good way to "computerize" people's personalities ; Orwell and his Big Brother are not far away.
After a good start ,the movie bogs down in sexual phantasms , with a lot of female nudity ; it becomes a mess , a jumble, where ,now and then ,a good scene emerges : the man with his double, the priest and God for instance ;but these are few and far between and Claude Rich ,who could have saved from the wreckage , is only given a few minutes in the last half.
In 2021 ,with hindsight , some aspects of the movie are not thoroughly irrelevant ; but vulgarity runs rampant and spoils a good subject.
