Before this film was released, the employees of American International Pictures were asked to submit titles for it as part of a contest.
Released on the same day as the eighth film in the James Bond series, Live and Let Die (1973). Voodoo played a significant part in the plots of both films. Arnold Williams played a supporting role in both of them, and Bob Minor also did stunts in both of them.
One of the props from this film (a crucifix) appeared in the Louis Theroux documentary Louis and the Nazis (2003). It is currently owned by John Malpezzi.
Several scenes in this film are backed by a creepy musical tonality that is similar, or almost identical, to the one that was used in The Exorcist (1973).
In the 1980 book "The Golden Turkey Awards" by Harry and Michael Medved, this film won the award for Worst Blaxploitation Movie of All Time.
