Andrew Watt and Pearl Jam entered the world at practically the same exact moment. The 33-year-old producer was born Oct. 20, 1990, the same week that Eddie Vedder traveled to Seattle from San Diego to meet his future bandmates for the first time. “They’ve said to me they were probably writing ‘Release’ while my mom was giving birth to me,” Watt says. “And then they played their first concert two days after that at the Off Ramp cafe. I don’t want to get too biblical about it, but it’s very,...

The supposed demise of physical media has been well covered and long lamented, with each passing year bringing reports of yet another nail in the coffin of the once flourishing DVD and Blu-ray market. Fall 2023 brought a double whammy of bad news: Netflix shipped its final discs to customers before closing up its DVD department for good, and a month later, Best Buy announced that it would be phasing out the sale of physical media. Yet, while DVDs are no longer the massive revenue generator for studios that they were throughout the first decade of the 2000s, it has never been a better time to be a physical media enthusiast. Thanks to independent labels like Criterion, Kino Lorber, Shout! Factory, Arrow, Imprint, Indicator, and many others, every month sees the release of well over a dozen exceptional titles, often lovingly restored and with indispensable scholarly extras.

From Mothman to Mom. Deadline reports today that Mark Pellington has set up his next project, an action-revenge thriller titled Mom.
Pellington is directing the film for Roundtable Entertainment.
The “adrenaline-fueled” story follows a single mother who embarks on a daring cross-country rescue mission, piecing together clues in the search for her teenage daughter who has fallen victim to the horrors of human trafficking.
“We had been looking to do a movie that felt like a throwback to a movie like Rolling Thunder – something real, gritty, and of the moment; we were thrilled that Gabe Torres brought us this harrowing tale which is based on true events – and straight out of screenwriter Brent Jordan’s life experience. And Mark is the ideal partner for the material,” said producer John Baldecchi.

First things first… The Severing is anything but a normal, formulaic movie with a clearly defined plot, character development and dialog, steady logic lines and lots of predictable and familiar points to ride along with. No, this movie is surely not your routine popcorn flick by any means. What it is however, is something captivating, mesmerizing and surprisingly emotional.
Producer Mark Pellington delivers a dark, brooding world of dimly lit, cold and dark emptiness with sets reminiscent of the Saw movies in their worn out industrial basement aesthetic. Mr. Pellington has a very deep background in creating captivating and thought provoking imagery. Race Across the World returned to screens last night (22 March), with fans taking to social media to praise the series despite one major change.
The adventure-themed reality show, which has moved from BBC Two to BBC One for its current third series, sees five teams attempt to travel as far as they can without smartphones, internet access or credit cards, and armed only with the cash equivalent of the airfare to fly the route.
While the teams usually travel across several countries, this time, they are racing 16,000km through the second largest country on the planet – Canada. This is because the series was filmed last year, when the world was still opening up after the pandemic.

The late Arthur Barron was a New York-based documentary film director perhaps best known for his two-hour Birth and Death film from 1969, followed by the true story of the Wright Brothers and their road to flight. Following these projects but prior to delving into made-for-television documentary fare in the mid-1970’s, he tried his hand at feature filmmaking, employing similar documentary-style techniques that William Friedkin used to startling effect in his masterful 1971 film The French Connection. Instead of following around two police detectives hot on the trail of heroin smugglers, however, Mr. Barron instead turned his attention to a dramatic subject that, almost unbelievably, was for the most part untapped at the time. His feature film directorial debut is the teenage coming-of-age romantic drama filmed in the autumn of 1972 called Jeremy, starring actor Robby Benson as the titular hero and...

Jeremy is the 1973 high-school romance movie which relates to the Pearl Jam song of the same name, in name only. That’s a good thing, because the song is a real bummer. Besides being a fairly good flick, the movie, Jeremy, reportedly has the distinction of spawning a real life love affair between the principals.
Robbie Benson plays a cello-studying, dog-walking, poetry-reading, chess-playing 15-year-old who follows the ponies. He falls for Glynnis O’Connor – can you blame him? – but they never make it to the track to place a bet. They have a short teenage love...

In honor of National Gun Violence Awareness Day on Friday (June 5), Pearl Jam officially released for the first time the original, uncensored 1992 video for its classic song “Jeremy,” directed by Mark Pellington. This version has circulated in varying degrees of quality online and on Pellington’s Web site for some time, but the update unveiled by Pearl Jam on Friday has been remastered in HD and features a new audio track first remixed by Brendan O’Brien for the 2009 reissue of the band’s 1991 Epic debut album “Ten.”
The release comes as gun violence continues to plague the United States, particularly the recent murder of Breonna Taylor by policemen in Louisville, Ky., which has become a rallying cry for protesters all over the world. It also extends Pearl Jam’s longtime support of gun violence initiatives, including contributing fellow “Ten” track “Porch” to the just-released documentary “Parkland Rising,” about the teen-driven...

Pearl Jam released the uncensored version of their “Jeremy” video for the first time Friday to mark National Gun Violence Awareness Day.
The Ten song and its corresponding Mark Pellington-directed video — which won Video of the Year at the 1993 MTV Video Music Awards — detailed the story of a bullied teenager who shot himself in front of his classmates.
In the original, edited 1992 video, the suicide is insinuated, but in the uncensored (and newly remastered) version that Pearl Jam uploaded Friday, Jeremy — played by actor Trevor Wilson — is shown placing the gun in his mouth.

Each month, the editors and critics at Rolling Stone will compile a list of our favorite new albums. Our picks from March include cosmopolitan reggaeton star J Balvin, alt-rock heroes Pearl Jam and rap dynamo Lil Uzi Vert
Lil Uzi Vert, Eternal Atake
Eternal Atake is Lil Uzi Vert’s best album yet, with a cohesiveness, slick concept, and performance that justifies every ounce of hype. He’s still melodically minded—note the almost melismatic flourish of “Got a model/ with vitiligo” on “Prices”—but Eternal Atake sometimes feels like...

ITV has set out the steps it is taking to protect the business from the coronavirus chaos, which the British broadcaster says is wreaking havoc on its two key sources of revenue: Its production arm and the advertising market.
In an update on Monday, ITV CEO Carolyn McCall told investors that the company is operating in “unprecedented and uncertain times,” which have required it to make quick and difficult decisions about its future.

One of Eddie Vedder’s idols, Roger Daltrey of the Who, once said that the secret to keeping “My Generation” fresh onstage half a century after it was written isn’t nailing the song’s stutter, but believably channeling its anger. It’s a sentiment Vedder would definitely endorse; the Pearl Jam frontman’s rage has always burned bright (this is a guy who once sounded super pissed-off singing about how people should play more vinyl). But as he’s matured, the youthful fury that fueled Pj’s golden-age grunge has grown with him,...

February 14, 2020, will mark the world premiere of the hysterical live stage parody Law & Order: The Musical!
As a cast member and writer here at TV Fanatic, I had the unique chance to interview writer/director/performer Ilyse Mimoun and composer Jeremy Adelman.
Having never watched an episode of Law & Order myself, I can attest that this musical can be enjoyed by all -- not only Law & Order fans -- but it is extra funny for those that are familiar.
The cast includes: Ebenezer Alasi, Annie Bond, Tara Cox, Steve Fite, Godfrey Flax, Kerr Lordygan, Tifanie McQueen, Ilyse Mimoun, and Kira Powell.
Choreagraphy is by Lou Becker, Desiree Zarate is stage managing, and Courtney Rhodes is Assistant Director. See more -- and get tix -- here.
Covering social issues like unjust justice and changes of cultural norms throughout the years, Law & Order: The Musical! never forgets it's a comedy.

Fans of NBC's The Good Place said goodbye to their favorite dumdums, fire squid, and not-a-girl during the Jan. 30 series finale, and the episode was full of surprise appearances and enough nuggets of wisdom to keep viewers content for thousands of Jeremy Bearimies to come. For a series that inspired fans to question every aspect of their existence, The Good Place's conclusion was beautifully definite, with all of Team Cockroach finding their peace at last. And it all ended with one "sleazy" Easter egg that would warm the most heartless of all beings. Or even Mindy St. Clair.
As the finale draws to a close, each of the main cast has experienced a moment of realization that signals their ultimate contentment with the afterlife and means it's time for them to move on by walking through the "final door" that is the actual final destination for all souls.

It’s hard out there for a ghost on Supernatural. Just ask formerly living hunter Bobby, who now “haunts” his surrogate sons, Dean and Sam, while trying to figure out a way to communicate with them (to no avail). But it’s not all terrible.
“Bobby’s going to find there are certain advantages to being a ghost,” his portrayer, Jim Beaver, tells TVLine. He’ll even meet up with a fellow hunter on the otherworldly plane in this Friday’s episode (The CW, 9/8c). And his new skills — once he masters them — will come in quite handy when going...
