The film was inspired by Jean Rollin´s childhood, when he watched American pirate and adventure-movies, and spent a lot of time on the beach.
Due to a dispute between the director and the film's distributors, a graphic rape scene with a young woman was cut from the DVD version.
This was a French-Belgium co-production, and it had a bigger budget than usual for films by Jean Rollin.
