David Korda, a prominent member of the Korda family movie dynasty who served as a producer and important film financier in a show business career that spanned more than 60 years, has died. He was 87.

A full year has passed since Hunter Schafer and Dominic Fike ended their brief relationship, but the actress is still grappling with the impact of their time together. During a recent appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, the 25-year-old revealed that while they split amicably, she was left “fundamentally changed” by the experience of being cheated on for the first time.
“It’s part of my truth, but that fundamentally changed me as a person. And it was this whole process of realizing that cheating has nothing to do with you at all,...

Content warning: This post discusses drug use.
Sam Levinson's "Euphoria" can feel like it takes place in another dimension. But as Dominic Fike explained in a July 5 interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, the lines between the show's iridescent universe and real life were actually quite blurred. "I was a drug addict and coming on to a show that's mainly about drugs, is very difficult," he said. Fike portrays Elliot on the show, a character who also struggles with drugs.
Knowing this, Levinson made sure the now 27-year-old musician had access to a "sober coach" to provide support whenever he needed. Unfortunately, this proved to be unsuccessful, with Fike saying he still filmed many of his scenes while high. "I was so f*cked up during a lot of that show. It was really bad," he said. Eventually, the crew noticed his offscreen behavior and had to take action.

Dominic Fike almost lost his role as Elliot on Euphoria due to his drug usage. The singer, who released his new album Sunburn Friday, July 7, spoke to Apple Music about his struggle with addiction and how it nearly cost him his role on the HBO show.
“I was a drug addict and coming on to a show that’s, you know, mainly about drugs, is very difficult,” Fike told Zane Lowe. “Sam [Levinson], the director and writer, got me a sober coach, somebody to be there all the time. It did not work.

Dominic Fike may be busy promoting his new studio album “Sunburn,” due July 7, but he’s already looking ahead to filming “Euphoria” Season 3 — with what sounds like some mixed feelings.
“You know how sometimes when you want to change, you need to refresh your whole friend group? Feels like moving backwards on that front,” Fike said in a Los Angeles Times interview published Thursday when asked about the project, which is currently scheduled for a 2025 airdate.
The remark came in the interview while discussing his experience filming while under the influence and dating his “Euphoria” costar Hunter Schafer. He told the paper he is now sober and single.
In 2022, “Euphoria” Season 2 marked a mainstream Hollywood breakout for Fike, who previously was better known as a musician. Created by Sam Levinson and starring Zendaya along with Schafer, the series’ second season introduced Fike as Elliot, a teenage drug addict and enabler...

The song is a study in contrasts, detailing the exhilaration of pursuing pleasure and pushing the envelope — and surviving the consequences later. As the band explained in a statement: “’Sunburn’ is: eating candy til you’re sick; riding your bike...

Charles Grodin had a 60-year career in Hollywood, ranging from guesting on 1950s TV Westerns to playing opposite such big-screen and TV stars as Robert De Niro, Warren Beatty, Goldie Hawn, Dustin Hoffman, Steve Martin, Jill Clayburgh, Farrah Fawcett, Cybill Shepherd, Marlo Thomas, Martin Short, Louis C.K. and, well, Miss Piggy.
The Emmy-winning actor, who died today at 86, had more than 70 credits on his résumé — from films including The Heartbreak Kid, Heaven Can Wait and Sunburn in the 1970s through The Lonely Guy and The Woman in Red to action-buddy classic Midnight Run, legendary flop Ishtar and the canine-infused Beethoven pics. He also starred in the 1986 primetime-soap spoof miniseries Fresno, won an Emmy for co-writing 1977’s The Paul Simon Special and fronted his own short-lived talk show.

Charles Grodin, best known for the neurotic comic wit he demonstrated in such films as “The Heartbreak Kid,” “Heaven Can Wait” and “Midnight Run” and for his role in the “Beethoven” movies, died Tuesday at his home in Connecticut. He was 86.
The New York Times reported that his son said he died of bone marrow cancer.
After getting his start in television, Grodin graduated to both leading and character roles in motion pictures, usually portraying the exasperated urban neurotic. His dry, understated sense of humor also made him a perfect talkshow guest, and later, host of his own cable show. Grodin also wrote plays and books.
The wry 1972 comedy “The Heartbreak Kid,” written by Neil Simon and directed by Elaine May, highlighted Grodin’s trademark neurotic befuddlement, and won him a Golden Globe nomination. But it was one of the few successful films in his career in which he was center stage.

History, memory, and female-driven stories mark some of the main themes in the six Serbian films selected for Locarno’s First Look, a pix-in-post strand that represents one of the high points of the mid-summer festival on the shores of Lake Maggiore.
The competitive showcase this year highlights an industry that has become increasingly prolific in the past decade. Thanks in large part to an uptick in government funding, which has opened the door for more international collaborations, it’s also grown in scope and ambition. “The industry itself, in terms of production power, it’s growing,” said First Look project manager Markus Duffner. More importantly, he added, young Serbian producers are “rapidly growing in terms of international industry experience.”
As part of its partnership with Locarno, Film Center Serbia selected six projects – including five documentary features – with all but one in post-production. Four of the six films are helmed by female directors.

Whether you grew up in the city or the country, you probably hung out with a group of similarly aged kids. You usually played games, explored, and occasionally got into a bit of mischief. The movies exploited that sensing of bonding and belonging nearly a hundred years ago when slapstick king Hal Roach created and produced the long-running series of short comedies called “Our Gang” (when they were sold to TV in the 50’s they were packaged under a new title “The Little Rascals: since teen gangs were the stuff of parental nightmares). In the late 1930’s, the “Dead End Kids were “B” movie staples right into the 50’s when they morphed into “The Bowery Boys”. More recently filmmakers have used the multi-kid format usually in a nostalgic setting. The 50’s were the backdrop for The Lords Of Flatbush and The Wanderers, the next decade had American Graffiti and The Sandlot.

Announced at Locarno, Vicente Alves do Ó’s “Sunburn,” (“A golpe de sol”) participating at this year’s Portugal-focused Works in Progress event, is to be sold by international sales, distribution and production company The Open Reel, with Portuguese distribution handled by Nos.
Shot in a 2:35 widescreen format, “Sunburn” is a deeply personal examination by Alves do Ó of the way in which people from our past can stick with us, and an experiment in what can happen when they re-enter our lives. It also works hard to combat gay stereotypes that often weigh down other similarly-themed stories.
In it, four friends enjoy a weekend in a luxurious cabin in the dry Portuguese countryside. As the sun beats down on their well-maintained, now middle-aged bodies, each receives a call from the same former lover David. It seems that after years away in Brazil, he is back, and will be...

The latest movies from three of Portugal’s most prominent production houses – Ukbar’s “Sunburn,” beActive’s “Gabriel” and O Som e a Furia’s “Breeding Ground” – feature in this year’s Locarno First Look showcase, a pix-in-post strand which marks one of the biggest attractions for sales agents and distributors at Europe’s largest mid-summer film event.
They are joined by three more doc-features, like “Breeding Ground”: Terratreme’s “Campo,” “Blue Breath,” from Bando a Parte, and Entre Imagen’s “Earth.”
A prestige First Look Jury is comprised by SXSW film head Janet Pierson, San Sebastian Festival director José Luis Rebordinos, and new Vienna Film Festival director Eva Sangiorgi.
First Look also serves as an introduction to key producers, talents and trends in a national cinema, and as springboard for broader international reach.

Joan Collins in 'The Bitch': Sex tale based on younger sister Jackie Collins' novel. Author Jackie Collins dead at 77: Surprisingly few film and TV adaptations of her bestselling novels Jackie Collins, best known for a series of bestsellers about the dysfunctional sex lives of the rich and famous and for being the younger sister of film and TV star Joan Collins, died of breast cancer on Sept. 19, '15, in Los Angeles. The London-born (Oct. 4, 1937) Collins was 77. Collins' tawdry, female-centered novels – much like those of Danielle Steel and Judith Krantz – were/are immensely popular. According to her website, they have sold more than 500 million copies in 40 countries. And if the increasingly tabloidy BBC is to be believed (nowadays, Wikipedia has become a key source, apparently), every single one of them – 32 in all – appeared on the New York Times' bestseller list. (Collins' own site claims that a mere 30 were included.) Sex...

Director of the mystical road movie Vanishing Point
Vanishing Point was one of a crop of existential road movies in the early 1970s – the others included Two-Lane Blacktop and Electra Glide in Blue – which quickly gained cult status. Its director, Richard C Sarafian, who has died aged 83, never made another film that struck such a resounding chord with audiences, countercultural or otherwise. No matter: the appeal of Vanishing Point was enduring enough to make him a noted, even influential, figure. Quentin Tarantino thanked Sarafian in the closing credits of his own four-wheeled thriller, Death Proof (2007), and the Scottish band Primal Scream signalled their admiration for Vanishing Point by naming a 1997 album after the movie. "It's always been a favourite of the band," said the singer Bobby Gillespie. "We love the air of paranoia and speed-freak righteousness."

What was once old always becomes new again. Right now the upper management at ABC are close to ordering a pilot for a new casting of Charlie's Angels, the classic 1970s action-adventure hour-long series beloved by little girls and older boys for completely different reasons.
When it came out in 1976, Angels was an instant hit and cemented Farrah Fawcett (then called Fawcett-Majors due to her nupitals with Six Million Dollar Man star Lee Majors) as the last poster queen. While Ff only starred in the show for a season before trying to play her cards as a movie star (Saturn 3? Sunburn? Man, it's pretty bad when you're only decent big screen performance from the 1970s was in Logan's Run), the show proved to have legs enough for a six season run. Drew Barrymore dusted it off and McG reimagined the concept slightly more tongue-in-cheek for the Charlie's Angels movies...

After a long battle with cancer actress Farrah Fawcett passed away earlier this morning at the age of 62. At the time of her passing she was with actor Ryan O'Neal, her longtime companion, and best friend Alana Stewart. Fawcett's fight against cancer had made headlines since she was diagnosed in late 2006 and went public with her battle with the disease.
In the 1970s Fawcett reached a level of fame that few actresses ever attain and became the defining sex symbol of that era. After being cast in the hour-long action show Charlie's Angels the blonde-haired former model found herself not just on the covers of magazines but also girls' dolls, toys, lunch boxes and even a worldwide bestselling poster that featured her smiling in a red bikini. She also shocked the world of entertainment when she announced that she would be leaving Charlie's Angels after starring it in for only one season.

The camera loved her. Men drooled over her and women wanted to look like her. She was the pin-up girl of the '70s—the blonde bombshell whose lovely visage hung on the walls of teenage boys across North America in one of the most famous posters of the decade. The classic image of Farrah Fawcett wearing a red swimsuit (pictured at left) sold 12 million copies around the world. But today, the woman who entered our collective consciousness 35 years ago as a lovely television pop idol, is dead at 62 after a fierce and much-publicized battle with cancer.
