Set in a suburban town, Me tells the story of Ben Vasani, a twelve-year-old boy adjusting to changes both expected and extraordinary. Having recently moved to a new home and school with his mother and stepfather, Ben finds himself changing in ways beyond the usual growing pains of adolescence. He discovers an uncanny ability to shapeshift into whoever crosses his path, a power that brings as much bewilderment as opportunity.
Directed by Michael Dowse for Apple TV+, this ten-episode series follows Ben as he navigates unfamiliar social dynamics while learning to harness a remarkable gift.
Around him, trusted allies like stepsister Max and the intriguing classmate Carter offer guidance as mysteries abound. Their town conceals more enhanced individuals, and a threat lurks ready to exploit such skills.
Through it all, Ben’s journey is less about spectacular feats than figuring out who he wants to be. His is a story...

A reference point for Francis Ford Coppola’s $120m epic Megalopolis was the 1936 sci-fi classic, Things To Come, written by Hg Wells.
Given its title and city-of-the-future setting, our initial assumption was that Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis took some inspiration from Fritz Lang’s hugely influential 1927 film, Metropolis. It turns out, though, that Coppola is drawing on a slightly less celebrated speculative sci-fi film – 1936’s Things To Come, written by Hg Wells.
It’s a small yet intriguing detail which emerged in Vanity Fair’s new piece on Coppola’s upcoming opus – a famously risky project with a budget of around $120m.
Although Coppola has drawn on a rich stew of writers and filmmakers for Megalopolis, about a visionary architect’s ambition to rebuild a Manhattan-like city shattered by disaster, Things To Come is one the director singles out for praise.

Defining an independent film goes beyond financial considerations to encompass creative freedom, narrative innovation, distribution methods, and a commitment to artistic intent. Independent filmmaking thrives on the passion and vision of filmmakers determined to tell unique stories that challenge and captivate audiences. The following ten examples demonstrate how the cinematic landscape of India continues to evolve; the definition of independent film will likely remain fluid, reflecting the dynamic nature of a medium that constantly pushes boundaries and defies easy categorization. While preparing this list, I considered films that had their world premiere at various film festivals around the world this year.

Ian McKellen is not holding back when it comes to talking about his least favorite filmmaking experience.
The “Lord of the Rings” and “X-Men” actor said in a Variety cover story that starring in Michael Mann’s 1983 horror film “The Keep” was among his worst memories as an actor. The film, which was critically panned upon release, follows a group of Nazi soldiers who unwittingly awaken an evil supernatural force in Romania during World War II.
“Michael Mann said to me, ‘You’re playing this Romanian,'” McKellen recalled. “So I went to Romania to scout it out, and I learned how to speak with a Romanian accent. Then on the first day of shooting, Michael told me he wanted me to speak with a Chicago accent. Well, I couldn’t do that, and it got worse from there.”
McKellen continued, “I would define a good director as an honest one who says,...

It’s almost time, dear readers! Halloween is nearly upon us, and we have one last batch of killer Blu-ray and DVD releases to get us ready for All Hallows’ Eve this week. One of the best films of 2018—Panos Cosmatos’ Mandy —arrives on both formats this Tuesday, courtesy of Rlje Films, and both Slender Man and Our House come home as well. The Matrix Trilogy is getting a much-deserved 4K treatment from Warner Bros., and a series that I really enjoyed back in the day—Chillers, hosted by Anthony Perkins—is headed to DVD, and I’m so excited to get the opportunity to finally revisit it.
Cult film fans will definitely want to pick up a copy of the Special Edition of Torso from Arrow Video, and Vinegar Syndrome is doing the Dark Lord’s work with a quartet of releases they have on tap as well, including The Incubus,...

The Walking Dead, Season 5, Episode 5: “Self Help”
Directed by Ernest Dickerson
Written by Heather Bellson and Seth Hoffman
Airs Sundays at 9pm Et on AMC
“Self Help” gives Abraham and Eugene their first spotlight since they first made an appearance last season. Eugene has been the sole remaining hope in this post-apocalyptic world, and this week The Walking Dead does a superb job in building and revealing his story. The group, led by Sgt. Abraham Ford (fuelled with a healthy supply of testosterone) hits the open road in a troublesome journey full of pitstops and roadblocks. From a viewer standpoint, the episode can seem frustrating but once we get to the end, we realize that the obstacles and the pitfalls lead to a great payoff. Everything and anything stops Abraham from transporting the mullet-sporting Dr. Eugene Porter to Washington D.C,; but as it turns out, the trip is the least of his worries.

So Drew Goddard is probably going to direct the Sinister Six movie, which is probably going to be released after Amazing Spider-Man 3, and which will probably star a lot of Spider-Man villains, at least one of whom will be less of a “villain” than an antihero who serves as the audience surrogate. (My money’s on Black Cat, but there’s always Sandman, the go-to not-really-evil villain for decades now.) Goddard was already announced as a member of Sony’s spin-off think thank, but if the news is not surprising, it’s still a bit unusual. Goddard’s sole...
