Batman is an elite fighter, nearly unrivaled detective, and genius. He’s helped prevent the destruction of the DC Universe dozens of times and will continue to do so until he can’t anymore. And considering he's been doing that since 1939, that says a lot about our dear Dark Knight.
That's right, the Caped Crusader has been doing this for nearly a whole century, with a legacy that is second-to-none. He's widely regarded as the most iconic superhero of all time (along with fellow DC legend Superman) and continues to entertain audiences around the world today as the superhero genre remains more popular than ever.
Despite everything he’s accomplished, there are things that people will say about him that aren’t true. Whether they are things that have gotten misconstrued over the years or things that never were, some people just get the DC hero all wrong. So let...

If you come to pop culture prominence by playing a blood-thirsty homicidal clown, the Joker comparisons are bound to emerge at some point. For actor David Howard Thornton, the man who has played Art the Clown in Damien Leone's "Terrifier" saga since 2016, that's apparently a welcome development.
Thornton, who landed the role of Art due to some nasty improv during his audition, has seemingly relished every second of portraying the invincible harlequin, turning Art into a burgeoning horror icon following the surprise success of 2022's "Terrifier 2". With 2024's "Terrifier 3" proving to be an even wilder splatter-fest than its predecessor, Art's pop culture standing only increased, and talk of Thornton branching out into other roles has abounded.
When you're as good at portraying a killer clown with a twisted sense of humor as Thornton, the idea of playing the Joker was always going to be part of that discourse.

Warning! This post contains Spoilers for Nightwing #122
The newest issue of DC's Nightwing reveals Dick Grayson's life could have gone down a much darker path, way back when he was Batman's very first Robin. In the present, Nightwing's city of Blüdhaven has been thrown into chaos thanks to a massive gang war and a new company named Spheric Solutions arming the police with brutal advanced weaponry to "keep the peace". However, Nightwing and Barbara Gordon have found evidence not only that the company's CEO is behind the gang war, but was also a Gotham villain from Grayson's past.
In the new Nightwing #122 by Dan Watters and Dexter Soy, Nightwing recounts his history as Batman's first Robin and their encounter with the Cirque du Sin, a traveling circus of crime luring the rich and wealthy not to rob them, but to slaughter them following their performance. It's here that Robin meets Colombina,...

2025 is showing no stop in the superhero era in movies and TV with Thunderbolts*, Superman, Captain America: Brave New World and more releasing this year. As the year marches on, we’re going to see some expected, unexpected, and wild announcements are imminent. Ranked from least to most likely, this is what we may see in 2025.
Justice League Plans
The Justice League are somewhere down the line with DC, but where they are in the plan is completely unknown. Only two members of the League have been cast so far, unless it’s going to have multiple lanterns, feature two Kryptonians, or add Superman’s side characters, so the Justice League is likely quite far off. We know The Brave and the Bold isn’t releasing until after 2027, and there’s no projects announced for Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Flash, or Martian Manhunter. Right now, the Justice League is not in sight,...

Dick Grayson’s most iconic Robin catchphrase has officially returned to mainstream continuity, and it’s even more ridiculous than ever—in the absolute best way. This return has only deepened my obsession with Dick’s latest Nightwing run, making me truly believe it’s one of his best yet.
..I’m absolutely obsessed that Watters has brought this delightfully ridiculous aspect of Dick’s character back.
Dan Watters and Dexter Soy’s Nightwing #122 is still a few days away from its official release on January 15, 2025, but fans can get an early taste with a five-page preview from DC. This sneak peek picks up the chaos that has become Dick Grayson’s life as he confronts Bludhaven’s commissioner over her decision to arm the city’s police force with military-grade weapons courtesy of Spheric Solutions.

Harley Quinn is one of the most interesting offerings DC has ever had. Clearly taking inspiration from both Margot Robbie's version of the character and DC Comics, the TV-ma animated series has no fears, exploring several different corners of the DC Universe. Following Creature Commandos season 1, those wanting another dose of bloody, hilarious adult animation with DC characters should check out Harley Quinn season 5. The new year of the TV show makes a good case for why James Gunn should keep it around for years to come as an Elseworlds project.
Developed by Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, and Dean Lorey, Harley Quinn is a Max original series focusing on Harley Quinn, the former therapist led astray by the Joker. The show sees Harley learn that the Joker truly doesn't love her and decides to find her place in the world without him - and cause a little mayhem along the way.

Batman may have a full roster of crime-fighting children, but his bond with Nightwing, his first Robin, is in a league of its own. Their unmatched connection doesn’t just define them as the heart of the Bat-Family—it elevates them as the greatest father-son duo in all of DC Comics.
There’s always something uniquely special about your first—whether it’s your first love, first car, or even your first job. The same holds true for parents with their firstborn. Firstborns are often the family’s guinea pigs, the test-run kids who bear the brunt of their parents’ learning curve. As they grow older, many can look back and recognize that, their parents had absolutely no idea what they were doing.
Yet, it’s precisely this trial-and-error experience that creates a bond like no other. As Bruce’s first Robin and the first child he took under his wing,...

Warning: Spoilers for Nightwing #121!Historically, Nightwing has gone out of his way to differentiate himself from Batman. Of course, that isn't to say the her3o necessarily hates his mentor. The pair's relationship carries a complicated history, but the love between Nightwing and Batman is undeniable. It's just that he doesn't want to harbor the same level of darkness - specifically the anger - it takes for Bruce Wayne to be Batman.
Dick Grayson shows he may be more like Batman than he realizes in Nightwing #121 by Dan Watters, Dexter Soy, Veronica Gandini, and Wes Abbott. In a moment of anger, Nightwing exposes the darkness inside of him that echoes the anger within Batman, all expressed in one simple quote: "I am unhappy with you."
Moments like this single panel showcase how, whether he wants to admit it or not, Nightwing is more like Batman than either of them may realize.

2023 saw the very first edition of the Bam Smack Pow Comic Book Awards, where we celebrated some of the very best comic books. Batman/Superman: World’s Finest won best ongoing series, Saga won the Most Promising Comic Book, and Comic Book Couple of the Year was Deadpool and Valentine Vuong. For one reason or another, none of them won this time around.
2024 was an incredible year for comic book fans. No matter what you’re into, there’s something for you to read. And you don’t have to stay within Marvel and DC Comics either. Plenty of independent comic book companies cater to various people so everyone can find something they love. That's why the list of awards here isn't just Marvel and DC.
With that said, let's get to the best of the year in various categories and a wide range of comic book companies.

Warning: Contains Potential Spoilers for Nightwing #121!In the ongoing debate over who the smartest member of the Bat-Family is, the contenders are typically Bruce “Batman” Wayne, Barbara “Batgirl” Gordon, and Tim “Robin” Drake. Nightwing’s no stranger to dealing with younger heroes, but his latest adventure is hinting that he might soon be getting a sidekick, or a Robin, who might be too much for even him to handle. Dick Grayson might not want a sidekick, but he doesn't have much room to argue. He was Robin when he was a kid, and it’s not like Dick can just stop being a positive influence on younger generations.

Warning: Contains Potential Spoilers for Nightwing #121!
Nightwing is proving once and for all that he is his own hero, redefining his crime-fighting tactics and moving further away from the lessons—and perhaps even the morals—instilled in him by Batman. However, the question remains: will Dick Grayson’s new approach to heroism see him surpass the Dark Knight, or will it result in a fall from grace?
Dan Watters and Dexter Soy’s takeover of the Nightwing run from Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo has ushered in a new era for the Original Boy Wonder, introducing not only fresh villains and challenges but also significant changes to Dick’s crime-fighting tactics—changes both he and Batgirl admit Batman would disapprove of.
These shifts first became apparent in issue #119, the debut of Watters and Soy’s run, and their latest release, issue #121, further cements that Dick has little regard left for Bruce’s methodology and code.

Did Nick Jonas Want To Replace Ben Affleck As Batman? (Photo Credit – Instagram)

DC’s Titans have abandoned Titans Tower in Bludhaven, trading it for a new base in a new city. The move hasn’t won over most of the team—especially after they passed up a coveted spot at the Justice League’s new Watchtower, settling instead for a base that feels more like something out of Batman’s playbook.

DC Proves Batman & Robin’s ‘Alfred Trauma’ Is Far From Over With 1 Heartbreaking Yet Important Scene

Yet, despite the time that has passed, it’s clear DC is far from finished exploring the Alfred-centric trauma haunting the Dynamic Duo, as one recent heartbreaking and narrative-defining scene demonstrates.

Warning! This post contains Spoilers for Nightwing #120As much as I loved Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo's run on DC's Nightwing, I'm definitely sold on the new era that's come for Dick Grayson and his city. However, Nightwing is now facing a brutal war that's coming from Blüdhaven (and I'm very excited about what's to come).

There are certain things you can expect to happen in the world of comic books. For example, the heroes will fight each other. at some point The X-Men and Avengers are at it again in Jed MacKay’s Avengers and two X-Men teams are fighting in MacKay’s X-Men and Gail Simone’s Uncanny X-Men. There's also the fact that someone will lose their powers (it was a whole thing in DC Comics Absolute Power). How often does that happen in comics, right?
While those two things are easy guesses, there are som moments that genuinely surprise us. With that in mind, the ten moments on this list weren’t on anyone’s 2024 bingo card.

The DC Extended Universe reached what proved to be an underwhelming end in 2023 with a series of critical and commercial flops. If nothing else, it died just as it lived (a disappointment).
The Dceu certainly wasn't all bad, of course, and Warner Bros. had a lot of good ideas over the years...most of which sadly never came to fruition. There are any number of reasons for that but as DC Studios and James Gunn continue fleshing out the new Dcu, a handful are of those definitely worth revisiting.
In this feature, we take a look back at some of the movies that failed to become a reality and explore how they could be reimagined for the Dcu. That could be in live-action, animation, in theaters, or on streaming; they all deserve a second chance, though.

Dcu's Batman movie has finally gotten an update from James Gunn, and it suggests the future of the Dcu is in good hands. When the MCU began in 2008, no one could have anticipated how big that franchise would become. However, there was a race to build on the mega franchise concept, with many studios rushing to create entire universes. Among them, the Dceu was one of the franchises that suffered in quality because of this race to the bottom.
However, with a complete overhaul and James Gunn being put in the hot seat as the new head of DC Studios, exciting developments and new projects were announced in bulk. Gunn announced several TV shows, movies like Superman, and a Batman film which would be titled The Brave and the Bold. Since that initial Dcu slate announcement in 2022, there has been a lot of radio silence in terms of the Batman movie,...

Warning! Spoilers for Batman and Robin: Year One #2
Robin spent many years as Batman's trusty sidekick in DC lore, but even at the beginning of his training, he clearly had the potential to be a standalone superhero. Long before becoming Nightwing, Dick Grayson's first rescue mission as Robin revealed that he was always destined to start a solo career, as he proved to be a hero on par with Batman.
In Batman and Robin: Year One #2 written by Mark Waid, with art by Chris Samnee Batman and his young sidekick continue to butt heads when Dick repeatedly refuses to do as instructed. Then, an arson job in Gotham City spurs them into action and forces them to work through their differences to save people from a burning building. When Batman believes everyone has been rescued, Robin rushes back into the flames, much to Bruce's horror.

As a die-hard fan of both Wonder Woman and Nightwing, I nearly spit out my pumpkin spice chai tea when I saw Diana Prince wearing a costume that instantly brought to mind one of Dick Graysons most iconic Nightwing looksthe Discowing suit. I could never get enough of Batman: The Animated Series and some incredible art makes me realize that I really want a Nightwing spin-off of the best DC animated series of all time. Batman: The Animated Series has endured for over three decades, becoming one of the best adaptations of the character and greatly influencing the comics and other media that came after it. Since first premiering in 1992, it still has yet to be topped.
One of the best parts about the Batman mythos is the various Robins he has taken under his wing over the course of his crime-fighting career. Warning: Spoilers for Nightwing #118After three years, Nightwing's ongoing battle with his greatest villain has come to a dramatic end. Nightwing and Heartless' conflict has been brewing since their childhood, and in one epic confrontation, they've settled the score once and for all. Nightwing has defeated Heartless at last, and he does it in a way so effective that Batman should take notes.
Nightwing #118 by Tom Taylor, Bruno Redondo, Adriano Lucas, Caio Filipe, and Wes Abbott depicts the final face-off between Nightwing and Heartless, also known as Shelton Lyle. Shelton had framed Nightwing as the true Heartless in a fake unmasking, but Dick confronts him publicly and clears his name before going head-to-head in a brawl across Bldhaven. Ultimately, Nightwing wins, bringing Heartless' dastardly plot to an end.
Heartless, on the verge of death, still feels satisfaction in the fact that Bldhaven will never forget him after the damage he caused.

Warning! This post contains Spoilers for Nightwing #118I was nearly about to flip tables halfway through the final issue of Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo's Nightwing. On the whole, Nightwing #118 is a wonderful conclusion to the run Taylor and Redondo first began in 2021 with Nightwing #78. However, there was one moment where I nearly started to riot, fearing that Tom Taylor had become as heartless as DC's Heartless himself.
In Nightwing #118 by Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo, Dick Grayson returns to his city of Bldhaven, having overcome his fear of heights he recently received from the villain Heartless. In the interim, Heartless had been posing as Grayson himself to discredit everything Nightwing had done to improve his city and help its people. Nightwing represents the pinnacle of heroism in the DC Universe but even his mentor Batman recognizes his potential to be a villain on the level of The Joker, a vicious and unstable killer, one of the worst monsters DC has to offer. As surprising as this might sound, a few moments show that Dick Grayson could be an even worse villain than the Joker.
Batman #1 written by Scott Snyder, with art by Greg Capullo is one such example from Nightwing's history that hint at his villainous potential, especially his capacity to be a greater version of the Joker. In this story, Nightwing impersonates the Joker while undercover in Arkham Asylum. This disguise is so effective that not only do none of the criminals recognize it, but neither does James Gordon.
Later, back at the Batcave, Dick curiously asks Batman how he did in impersonating the Joker, and Bruce admits that Dick was extremely convincing.

I fear that my wish to see Jensen Ackles lead The Brave and the Bold as the Batman of James Gunn's DC Universe might not come true after a new development. The Flash director Andy Muschietti will go from the old Dceu to the new Dcu for The Brave and the Bold, as Muschietti has been announced as the director of the Batman reboot. The Brave and the Bold's story will feature the live-action debut of Damian Wayne, Bruce's biological son. Bruce and Damian's relationship will be at the center of the film.
I'm very excited about a new Batman. While I like Robert Pattinson's grounded The Batman universe, I want to see the Dcu use the comics to the fullest. I'm happy that Gunn has teased that other members of the Bat-Family will show up in the film, as I can't wait to see Nightwing in the Dcu.

Nightwing exposes Batman's brutality, showing how it extends to the Bat-Family. The comic raises questions about whether Batman's violent methods are doing more harm than good. Bruce Wayne's decision to act as Nightwing in Bldhaven could tarnish Dick's reputation further.

Warning: Contains Potential Spoilers for Titans #15!Although Ive always favored the Nightwing and Starfire romance over Nightwing and Batgirl, I never truly shipped the Original Boy Wonder with the Tamaranean Princessuntil now. This changed with the release of a recent comic that brilliantly recreated one of my favorite Dick Grayson and Koriandr moments from the Dcau animated films, officially solidifying my place among the NightFire shippers. And the real surprise? It was a DC writer I never expected who made me a full-fledged Dick/Kori believer.
It may come as a shock to many that Tom Taylor is responsible for turning me into a Starfire/Nightwing shipper.

During the DC Comics crossover Absolute Power, Amanda Waller made the world think heroes were committing crimes worldwide. Then, her Task Force VII stole powers from heroes and villains across Earth Prime and kept them for themselves. To make things worse, Waller was helped by Oliver Queen (Green Arrow) and Batman’s android, Failsafe. Of course, the heroes eventually fought back. With Nightwing leading, the heroes attacked Waller and took their planet back.
Now that the series is over, here's everything you need to know about the finale of Absolute Power and how it affects DC Comics.

It was obvious that Green Arrow wasn’t a traitor, but there were times when it looked like he believed in Waller’s mission. There was a reason for that. J'onn J'onzz put an implant in Oliver’s...

Comics have been around for a long time, and as such, established heroes like Bruce Waynes Batman, who debuted in 1939s Detective Comics #27 by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, have seen their history reshuffled through various events. Still, as long and varied as the Dark Knights comic history is, it lacks the one thing that could truly connect Batman with Generation Z: a fiery and determined desire for change. Scott Snyders upcoming Absolute Batman promises this trait in abundance.
DCs new All In initiative beginning in October 2024 will serve as a jumping-on point for old and new comic fans, with two large universes running side by side: Snyders new Absolute Universe, a different take on old heroes, and the Prime Universe, which will see different creative teams tackling the various lines.

In the Dawn of DC era, there was a great deal of hype surrounding the Titans stepping up and taking the Justice League's place after their disbandment. However, almost two years later, it doesn't look like the Titans were able to live up to that hype. Although it appeared they were being set up for success, the Titans never quite reached the heights of the team before them, and now they're already being sidelined. The Justice League will soon return as...
