Rimjhim Gire Sawan (Female)..The filming of this iconic romantic rain song in unsupervised locations was a last-minute decision since it was not possible to shoot it on sets. Director Basu Chatterjee let Amitabh Bachchan and Moushumi Chatterjee improvise, and the crew went from location to location filming the song in some of the most well-known landmarks of Bombay. It was Amitabh's brother Ajitabh who drove the actors from one location to the next. Since the actors weren't very well-known at the time, the crew managed to finish shooting at each location quickly before the crowds realised what was happening. The torrential rains meant that Moushumi's makeup and her saree were running colour throughout the filming.
" Tum Ho Mere Dil Ke Dhadkhan" was sampled from Procol Harem's song "A Whiter Shade of Pale".
The film was long in the making. It was launched in 1972. Amitabh was good friends with the producer Jai Pawar (Lalita Pawar's son).
Mrinal Sen's Akash Kusum starring Aparna Sen and Soumitra Chatterjee was the inspiration for Manzil.
The background music played during the horse race scene was previously used in Parwana during a party scene with Amitabh The scene seems to have been edited out the Manzil DVD.. The music was also used in Feroz Khan's Ek Paheli during a cabaret dance.
