To make a more compelling product for syndication, all episodes of BJ and the Bear and its spinoff The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo (changed to Lobo) were packaged as a bundle titled "The B.J./Lobo Show".
"The Bear" was named after Paul William "Bear" Bryant, who was head coach of the University of Alabama's football team from 1958 until his death in 1982.
BJ's Kenworth can still be seen at truck shows around the country.
The final season saw a change as BJ was teamed with seven female truckers, who all became regulars or semi-regulars.
