It’s a remarkable story of personal and professional friendship, all the more so because it plays out within the notoriously volatile realm of show business.
Two young men skip university to become chartered accountants. They run a partnership for almost two decades, serving and representing many of the preeminent musical attractions of their time. After deciding to go separate ways, they remain the best of friends, and almost 60 years after they met are reunited as co-executive producers on “Judy,” an awards season front-runner.
And it all happened on the strength of a handshake.
“We never had a piece of paper,” claims Laurence Myers.
“We never signed a contract or anything,” Ellis M. Goodman confirms.
Myers left school early. “I wanted to be a Latin-American percussionist, but if I’d told my mother that at 16, I wouldn’t have made it to 17.” He and Goodman met in 1962 while studying for their accounting certification.

Natalie Portman as Jacqueline Kennedy: 'Jackie.' Natalie Portman as Jacqueline Kennedy in 'Jackie' Notwithstanding the box office-friendly Thor movies, which revolve around Chris Hemsworth in the title role, Natalie Portman has yet to have a star vehicle as impactful as Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan, which earned her the Best Actress Academy Award nearly five years ago. Who knows, perhaps Pablo Larraín's Jackie will be one such vehicle; the biopic following U.S. First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in the days after President John F. Like most Americans living today, I was born after November 22, 1963, so I don't remember John F. Kennedy and can't tell you where I was when news broke of his assassination. So here's what I know about the man, his presidency, and his death, thanks to the history professors of Hollywood.
Let me see if I have this right: JFK was a handsome man with the charisma of a movie star. (Indeed, he had connections to Hollywood through his father, a onetime movie producer; through his brother-in-law Peter Lawford and fellow Rat Packer Frank Sinatra; and through his torrid affair with Marilyn Monroe.) Through his youth, good looks, charisma, and forward-looking rhetoric, he inspired a nation to stop wearing hats, build rockets to the moon, and join the Peace Corps. His even more attractive, youthful, stylish, and patrician wife Jackie swept out the dowdy cobwebs of the Eisenhower years and turned...

HollywoodNews.com: So yesterday I reported on Rosie O’Donnell and Ashley Fink clearing the air over Rosie’s remark about Ashley’s storyline on ‘Glee.’
Today, it’s time to clear up reports that Rosie and her new boss, Oprah Winfrey, are already on the outs.
Rosie is set to headline a daily talk show on Oprah’s Own network this fall and Oprah took to Twitter to torpedo the rumors: “I get so sick of people trying to create fights and feuds when women are in business. Don’t buy into it. There’s no feud between Rosie and me. We haven’t even had a discussion about the new show.”
Bissett On Best Picture: The lovely Jacqueline Bisset and I chatted at the BAFTA/La Awards Season Tea Party about Sunday’s Academy Awards.

'Cape Fear' Director Thompson Dies
British director J. Lee Thompson has died of congestive heart failure. He was 88. The Bristol, England-born movie-maker passed away on Friday in Sooke, British Columbia, Canada, where he was spending the summer as he did most years. Thompson was a bantamweight boxer and a B-29 tailgunner during World War II before starting his film career in 1950 when he directed Murder Without Crime. He worked with Gregory Peck on several movies including the original Cape Fear movie as well as Anthony Quinn in The Greek Tycoon. Co-producer Pancho Kohner says, "He was a very large directorial presence. He was a gentleman and such a pleasure to work with. Everyone who worked with him once wanted to work with him again and again. Working with Lee, you were spoiled. He had the uncanny ability to play the film in his mind. He would know exactly what shot he needed so there was no wasted effort. He was a talented craftsman." Thompson is survived by his wife of 40 years, Penny, a daughter and a granddaughter.
