Debut film of Nanni Moretti, it has an extremely limited budget, and has been realized only with non-professional actors and using a Super8 cam.
The shootings, entirely within the city of Rome, took three months.
There was only one copy in existence of the movie, and every night after projections, Moretti had to take it back to his home from the theatre.
