The marketing of this film was unique and unusual. For example, there was a theatrical trailer for the film that was geared toward Caucasian audiences, and another theatrical trailer for the film that was geared towards African-American audiences (using the alternate title of the movie, "Stayin' Alive"). Another example would be the teaser trailer, which was just an almost 30-second clip, without music and sound, of a still-photograph from the movie, along with the title and MPAA rating.
The film was rejected for a UK cinema certificate in 1981 by the BBFC and later ended up on the DPP 72 list of official video nasties.
The original camera negative was ruined when the storage unit that housed it was flooded by Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
When submitted to the Swedish censors in April 1981, with a running time of 85 minutes 31 seconds, the film was banned. Eight months later a heavily edited version was submitted, but the film was denied a certificate yet again, despite having suffered 3 minutes worth of cuts, running only 82 minutes 14 seconds.
