The home where James lived with his parents was a facade on the 20th Century Fox lot. In 1979, if one were to walk up the stairs and through the front door, one would have had the surreal experience of walking down stairs to ground level facing a soundstage about 50 feet in the distance. Upon entering this soundstage and walking several yards you would have found yourself on the pool deck of The Love Boat (1977).
The series was originally titled "James at 15." It became "James at 16" beginning with the 9 February 1978 episode.
