Gigi Proietti was a fan of Vittorio Gassman, whom producer Roberto Infascelli had initially considered for his role. Proietti used part of Gassman's theatrical style while playing the role of Mandrake.
In the scene of whiskey Vat69 spot the actor who plays the Director (Fernando Cerulli) is voiced by Steno, Director of horse fever, while the driver without a license is voiced by Mario Lombardini.
In the opening credits, Gigi Proietti is credited as Luigi Proietti, his full name. The actor has also stated that following Ghost Whisperer to film, feared to really take the game habit.
For the role of Pomata, producer Roberto Infascelli had initially considered young actor Carlo Verdone, but director Steno preferred to give the role to Enrico Montesano, whom he had already directed in L'Italia s'è rotta (1976). Montesano was initially not much sure to accept the role because he was going to begin filming Il marito in collegio (1977) shortly after, but then he agreed with director Maurizio Lucidi to postpone the filming.
Director Steno stated that they wanted to recreate a typical Italian comedy of the 1950s, removing every content of social criticism and taking inspiration to his previous comedy movie, L'Italia s'è rotta (1976), despite producer Roberto Infascelli was initially not much happy with this choice. Anyway, he gave full confidence to the director.
