This picture was one of fifty Australian films selected for preservation as part of the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia's Kodak / Atlab Cinema Collection Restoration Project.
In Brother Francine's impassioned speech Arthur Dignam read a line "The body won't be denied" with the wrong emphasis. Dignam repeated the line immediately with the correct emphasis: "The body WON'T be denied." Editor Brian Kavanagh thought the repetition "worked" and left both lines in, and it remained in the final cut.
In order to work out the logistics of shooting a full movie (eg budgets, filming schedules and takes) for his first full-length film, writer/director Fred Schepisi and his then-wife Rhonda Schepisi watched and rewatched Morgan! (1966) to analyse how it was constructed.
Actor Nick Tate had to make his own way to Australia to shoot the film for his old friend Schepisi; he was currently living in the United Kingdom between shooting seasons of science-fiction series Space: 1999 (1975), in which he was a regular.
Seminary scenes were filmed at Werribee Park Mansion, which had served as a seminary (Corpus Christi Catholic College) for 50 years, and had closed only two years prior to the movie's filming.
