Many of the stock "futuristic" sound effects are identical to those used on the original Star Trek series.
Actor Monte Markham did his own stunts in the film. Markham also performed his first-ever onscreen punch in a scene with Larry Duran (Marlon Brando's stunt double) and accidentally gave Duran a bloody nose.
The film takes place in 2118.
Two years earlier, producer Castle did a highly dramatic reading of Edgar Allen Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart" for the record label of Hanna-Barbera, who did the special animated sequences for this film.
Not only are the sound effects similar to Star Trek but 5 of the 16 actors also appeared in episodes of Star Trek: The Original Series. Phillip Pine, Lee Delano, Maryester Denver, Keye Luke each appeared in one episode of Star Trek, while Walt Davis appeared in 3.
