After the critical and commercial failure of the film, director George Sidney retired from directing at the age of only 51.
Julia Foster's vocal double was Marti Webb, the actress who played Ann in the London version, and who appears on the London cast album.
Roy Skelton, an actor known primarily for voiceover work, claimed to have re-voiced around a third of the characters in this film before its release, including a sequence of Tommy Steele singing.
The original Broadway production of Half a Sixpence opened at the Broadhurst Theater in New York on April 25, 1965, ran for 511 performances and was nominated for the 1965 Tony Award for the Best Musical. Tommy Steele was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Actor and recreated his stage role in this film adaptation. Grover Dale also recreated his stage role in the film.
