As originally written, the story was to be set in a Hawaiian tourist paradise, but budget constraints meant relocating it to the Arizona riverside.
Ken Swofford had a recurring role as newspaper columnist Frank Flannigan in the 1975-76 NBC version of "Ellery Queen". In "The Adventure of the Sunday Punch", John Furlong appears as his photographer.
