Eight individuals—Judge Arthur Cannon (Wilfrid Hyde-White), Doctor Edward Armstrong (Dennis Price), engineer Hugh Lombard (Hugh O'Brian), Detective William Blore (Stanley Holloway), secretary Ann Clyde (Shirley Eaton), General Sir John Mandrake (Leo Genn), actress Ilona Bergen (Daliah Lavi), and pop singer Mike Raven (Fabian) plus two newly-hired staff persons, butler Herr Joseph Grohmann (Mario Adorf) and his wife Elsa (Marianne Hoppe), all of whom have been accused of causing someone's death—are invited by Mr U.N. Owen (voice of Christopher Lee) for a weekend party at a house high on a mountain top, accessible only by gondola, but Mr Owen is detained and never arrives. One by one, however, the guests are being murdered according to the poem "Ten Little Indians". With no way off the mountain until Monday, the survivors have to figure out where the murderer is hiding.
Ten Little Indians is based on the 1939 mystery novel And Then There Were None by English crime novelist Dame Agatha Christie. The novel was adapted for the movie by Australian screenwriter Peter Yeldham and British screenwriter Harry Alan Towers (as Peter Welbeck). Christie's novel has been filmed a number of times, The novel was originally titled "Ten Little Niggers." It was subsequently changed for obvious reasons. The Austrian film title reflected this original title.
(1) General Mandrake is accused of sending five men to their deaths. (2) Mike Raven is accused of running over two people while driving drunk. (3) Ilona Bergen is accused of killing her husband. (4) Dr. Armstrong is accused of killing a patient by operating while drunk. (5) Judge Cannon is accused of sentencing an innocent man to be hanged. (6) William Blore is accused of perjuring himself to send a man to prison. (7) Hugh Lombard is accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend. (8) Ann Clyde is accused of murdering her sister's fiance. (9 and 10) The Grohmanns are accused of causing the death of an invalid employer.
Ten little Indians went out to dine; One choked his little self and then there were nine.
Nine little Indians staying up quite late; One overslept himself and then there were eight.
Eight little Indians traveling to heaven; One met a pussycat and then there were seven.
Seven little Indians chopping up sticks; The chopper finished one of them and then there were six.
Six little Indians playing with a hive; A bumblebee stung one and then there were five.
Five little Indians going in for law; One got chancery and then there were four.
Four little Indians feelin' ill at sea; A red herring swallowed one and then there were three.
Three little Indians walking in the zoo; A big bear hugged one and then there were two.
Two little Indians sittin' in the sun; One got all frizzled up and then there was one.
One little Indian boy left all alone; So he went out and hanged himself and then there were none.
Mike Raven drinks cyanide and topples over dead. Elsa Grohmann is killed when the gondola cord breaks. General Mandrake is stabbed. Herr Grohmann falls off the mountain while trying to climb down. Ilona Bergen is injected with a hypodermic. Judge Cannon is shot through the forehead. Dr. Armstrong is found dead in the snow. Detective Blore is crushed by a large wooden bear. That leaves Ann Clyde and Hugh Lombard, one of whom must be the killer. Or could it be someone else?
