When looking back on the film, Honda recalled that the studio had him used a different crew than he was accustom too and, although he liked the script, felt he was only given the job because he was viewed as a "safe bet".
This was Honda's only collaboration with actor Chishû Ryû, known for his collaborations with acclaimed director Yasujirô Ozu.
The film is reminiscent of Toho's popular "Young Guy" series.
