Actually, Father Sal arrived in New York City from Calabria in 1949 and was assigned to Saint Ann's in Staten Island. He was then transferred to Saint Lucy's in the Bronx in 1951 and remained there until 1963 when he returned to Italy after burying his other brother "Tough Tony" in March of that year.
