The series was rebooted in 2013 with Mark Williams as Father Brown.
Only one series was commissioned. Although there were only three TV channels in existence in the UK at the time the show was considered only moderately successful. Critics considered Kenneth More miscast and complained about the set bound nature of the show making it have a soap opera feel. The series also was not a big seller with foreign broadcasters with only an Australian network buying broadcast rights off the BBC.
