CBS' "Family Affair" wasn't the biggest sitcom of its era, nor was it the most groundbreaking, but it popularized a found-family formula that would endure for decades after its original run. The series followed a lifelong bachelor, Bill (Brian Keith), whose lifestyle is interrupted by the sudden arrival of his three orphaned nieces and nephews. Clueless about parenthood yet suddenly the dad of three grieving kids, Bill recruited the help of several other characters throughout the series — most notably, his loyal British manservant, French (Sebastian Cabot).
"Family Affair" ran for five seasons on CBS beginning in 1966, and though it doesn't appear in syndication as often as other shows from its era, the series is still fondly remembered by those who saw it. Unfortunately, the show is also remembered for the unusual amount of tragedy that befell its stars. Child star Anissa Jones died of an overdose just five years after the show ended,...

On-set accidents aren’t something that we often get to hear from stars and individuals involved in a major project, more so because of them being rare than anything else. Thus, when legendary actress Jodie Foster recently went public with an incident that featured her in a life-or-death situation, it was sure to raise a lot of eyebrows.
Jodie Foster in a still from Contact (1997)
This incident took place when she was still a young child actress in the industry and during the shoot of her then-upcoming film Napoleon and Samantha, the lion they were shooting on set grabbed her lightly with jaws and started carrying her. This was such a terrifying experience that every crew member upon seeing this was scrambling all over the place.

For as much as Martin Scorsese's 1976 classic "Taxi Driver" pushes you directly into the darkest parts of the human experience, few things are as disturbing as the character of preteen sex worker Iris (Jodie Foster). Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro), the titular driver, spots her early on in a haunting glimpse from the taxi window, just one horrifying part of the movie's grim and grimy texture. But in the movie's second half, we get to know her better, as Travis devotes his violent energy and obsessiveness to the mission of her rescue, knowing (and maybe even hoping) he will likely die as a result.
Because of Iris's complex and deeply sad situation, there was a great deal of sensitivity involved in bringing the character to life. Foster was just 12 years old when cast in the film, and the character of Iris was a far cry from the typical expectations of a child star.

Long ago, the 1950s ended and Disney never really got over it.
With the right kind of eyes, a casual viewer can look at the early days of Walt Disney Studios as their heyday. Walt himself was still alive and using his aggressive business acumen to produce visually innovative and award-winning animated shorts that were helping put the studio on the map. Without the Silly Symphonies, animation would not be the same. Warner Bros. outstripped Disney's fare with their cheekier, funnier shorts in the 1940s and 1950s, but the folks at Warner's Termite Terrace were very open about the fact that Merrie Melodies and Looney Tunes were ripping off Disney's Silly Symphonies name. Disney Animation broke onto the scene in 1937 with the release of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," still celebrated as one of the best of all animated films to this day.

Danielle Darrieux turns 97: Darrieux has probably enjoyed the longest film star career in history (photo: Danielle Darrieux in ‘La Ronde’) Screen legend Danielle Darrieux is turning 97 today, May 1, 2014. In all likelihood, the Bordeaux-born (1917) Darrieux has enjoyed the longest "movie star" career ever: eight decades, from Wilhelm Thiele’s Le Bal (1931) to Denys Granier-Deferre’s The Wedding Cake / Pièce montée (2010). (Mickey Rooney has had a longer film career — nearly nine decades — but mostly as a supporting player in minor roles.) Absurdly, despite a prestigious career consisting of more than 100 movie roles, Danielle Darrieux — delightful in Club de femmes, superb in The Earrings of Madame De…, alternately hilarious and heartbreaking in 8 Women — has never won an Honorary Oscar. But then again, very few women have. At least, the French Academy did award her an Honorary César back in 1985; additionally, in 2002 Darrieux and her fellow 8 Women / 8 femmes co-stars shared Best Actress honors...

With the Cecil B. DeMiller tribute coming at the Golden Globes and her 50th birthday hitting this coming Monday, we're celebrating the one and only Jodie Foster.
Jodie Foster is one of only a tiny handful of full fledged child stars to become even more legendary as an adult movie star. She remains the modern era's gold standard for making the transition but who could've predicted it in 1972 when she made her first feature Napoleon & Samantha. She's not really the star (that'd be Johnny Whitaker as Napoleon) but the film had the foresight to open with her face and that distinctive voice.
She gets the movie's very first shot and line.
Ouch, I bumped my knee!
Auspicious beginnings!
a totally docile animal actor. Johnny & Jodie climb all over this big cat, pull its tail, shove their hands in its mouthNapoleon, tells her to shush with a "who cares about your stupid knee?...

Lion Mauling Left Foster Fearful Of Cats
Jodie Foster has had a life-long fear of cats since she was almost mauled to death by a lion when she was eight years old.
The actress was a child star on the set of 1972 movie Napoleon And Samantha, when a big cat co-star lashed out at her.
Foster remembers, "I was walking ahead of him. He was on an invisible leash, some piano wire. He got sick of me being slow, picked my up and held me sideways and shook me like a doll.
"I was in shock and thought it was an earthquake. I turned around and saw the entire crew running off in the other direction.
"The trainer then said, 'Drop it' and he opened his mouth and dropped me."
Foster insists she had no problem returning to the set two weeks later and firmly believes the animal spared her life - but she admits the incident 36 years ago has left her wary of all kinds of felines.
The 45-year-old - who plays a phobic adventurer in new movie Nim's Castle - tells U.S. talk show host Jay Leno, "Now cats freak me out a little bit."...

Foster files 'Flight Plan' at Touchstone
Jodie Foster is set to star in Flight Plan for the Walt Disney Studios' Touchstone Pictures label. Robert Schwentke is directing, while Brian Grazer is producing through Imagine Entertainment. The project is described as a Hitchcockian thriller in which a woman's daughter mysteriously disappears while on board a passenger jet. The film will be the first project that Foster has made at Disney in more than 25 years. Foster's last project for the studio was 1978's Candleshoe, though the Disney film she is most associated with is the 1977 comedy Freaky Friday. While working as a child star at Disney, she also appeared in 1973's One Little Indian and 1972's Napoleon and Samantha, which was her feature film debut. Flight Plan is based on a pitch from Peter Dowling. Billy Ray wrote the current draft. Robert DiNozzi is executive producing. Overseeing for Disney are Brigham Taylor and Louanne Brickhouse, while Jim Whitaker overlooks for Imagine. Flight Plan would be Foster's first outing since 2002's Panic Room. Foster has won two Oscars, for her performances in The Silence of the Lambs and The Accused. She is repped ICM and Matt Saver.
