In terms of profanity, the film has only two incidents which are very minor in nature. In one a character expresses surprise with the use of 'geez', while in another one character indirectly calls another a 'bitch'. The remainder of the film, though, does not contain expletives of any other kind.

The film features a few brief scenes of characters smoking. Victor takes a cigarette hidden from under the car seat and lights up. A woman in the pool is smoking, and it is inferred that she has smoked a few cigarettes as the ashtray poolside appears full. There is also a scene where a giggling hitchhiker offers a cigarette to Kim in the car who refuses it, and it appears to be a joint, discerned by the hitchhiker's behavior.

There are no frightening scenes in the film but several which are intense in nature. The most intense ones are two scenes involving mother and daughter Kim and Adele where they argue about Victor's late arrival home every night, and exactly where he has been. There is also a scene at the civic meeting where an angry woman tries to make her opinion heard but is not supported by the chairperson, who refuses to recognize her.
