Is there anything Maya Rudolph can’t do? It’s a serious question, as the comedy superstar reigns as this year’s Emmy nominations Mvp. Rudolph earned four nominations — a stunning achievement in itself, but made even more impressive because those nods come from three different programs. She’s nominated in comedy lead actress for Apple TV+’s “Loot” (just renewed for a third season), in character voice-over for her role as Connie the Hormone Monstress in Netflix’s animated “Big Mouth,” and in comedy guest actress for her hosting stint on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” (which also got her an original music and lyrics nod for her monologue tune).
It’s quite a year for Emmy overachievers. Several acting stars also landed writing noms, like Quinta Brunson (“Abbott Elementary”), Richard Gadd (“Baby Reindeer”) and Donald Glover (“Mr. & Mrs. Smith”). Others nominated thesps are also producers on their nominated best series.

Caitlin Clark, who helped grow the popularity of women’s basketball with her record-breaking college career at the University of Iowa, was the most no-brainer pick of the WNBA Draft on Monday, going No. 1 to the Indiana Fever.
The league will waste no time putting Clark front and center: The regular season begins May 14 with a doubleheader on ESPN2 leading off with Indiana against Connecticut, the first of a full slate of Fever games slated for national broadcasts.
Clark led Iowa to back-to-back NCAA women’s national championship games, most recently earlier this month when the Hawkeyes lost to undefeated South Carolina in the title game, a matchup that drew more viewers than the men’s finale for the first time ever and drew 18.7 million viewers.
Clark, who scored 30 in that game to end her career, scored an NCAA Division I record 3,951 points in her four years, breaking both the...

Arnold Schwarzenegger has accomplished a fair bit in his life. The man came over from Austria having served in the army, claimed the Mr. Olympia title a full seven times, then launched one of the most successful Hollywood careers in the history of the industry, before becoming governor of California and finding time to marry a Kennedy in the process. But surely what he's really concerned with are his Rotten Tomato scores.
Having recently starred in his own Netflix series, "Fubar," recounted his remarkable life in the streamer's "Arnold" documentary, and whipped Jake from State Farm into shape for a Super Bowl commercial, the Austrian Oak is now gearing up for his Christmas comedy with "Reacher" star Alan Ritchson. Mark Wahlberg is one of the most famous Boston natives who is working in Hollywood. The actor has made it in the industry by delivering several hits at the box office such as the Transformers films, The Departed, Boogie Nights, Ted, and more. Wahlberg was also once the highest-paid actor in the world.
However, the legendary actor was reportedly not famous enough for Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s Massachusetts-themed Super Bowl ad for Dunkin’ Donuts. The ad featured Affleck, Damon, and Tom Brady, but failed to include the Ted star. Mark Wahlberg recently gave a passive-aggressive statement about him not being included in the ad.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito had a mini Twins reunion for State Farm’s Super Bowl commercial. However, the former co-stars were meant to reunite sooner in the nixed Twins sequel, Triplets.
Following the viral ad’s release, Josh Gad, who had originally been tapped by director Ivan Reitman to co-write the movie with former writing partner Ryan Dixon, decided to give a preview of the script the two of them penned on Wednesday.
He wrote, “One of my favorite commercials from this past weekend’s Sb was the reunion of Arnold and Danny for State Farm. Years ago, the late/great Ivan Reitman hired me and my then writing partner @dixonofnoho to write a sequel to Twins called Triplets meant to star Arnold, Danny and Eddie Murphy. It was such a blast developing a follow up to one of my favorite comedies of the 80’s.”

How big was the Taylor Swift effect on the Super Bowl? Her impact on viewership of CBS’s Super Bowl Lviii telecast will continue to be debated even after ratings for TV’s biggest event of the year come out.
But it’s undeniable that Swift — who jetted from Tokyo to Las Vegas to cheer on beau Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs in Sunday’s Super Bowl — has ratcheted up interest in the NFL and is responsible for recruiting a new cadre of fans to pro football.
Here’s a new data point on the Swift-ization of the NFL: 20% of 2024 Super Bowl viewers said they were rooting for the Chiefs because of Kelce’s relationship with the global superstar, according to a flash survey conducted by consumer research firm Numerator. The poll was taken after the Chiefs clinched a 25-22 overtime defeat of the San Francisco 49ers.

This weekend, the biggest sporting event on the Stateside calendar, the Super Bowl, went down between the San Francisco 49ers and the Taylor Swiftie… Sorry (checks notes), Kansas City Chiefs. And with a massive guaranteed TV audience, that naturally meant companies shelling out not just $7 million for 30 seconds of precious airtime, but millions more to secure celebrity faces and guarantee viewers/clicks. As is usual these days, most of the ads went up days before the event itself, or the spots linked to longer versions online. Here is a roundup of our favourites…
State Farm: Arnold Schwarzenegger
Arnie's spot for the insurance company is, like so many of these short clips, really only a two-joke piece: 1. Arnie is in it 2. He pronounces "neighbour" "neighbah". Oh, and the extended version also has his old pal Danny DeVito in it. For a second.
Booking.com: Tina Fey
Wither Idris and (more recently) Melissa McCarthy?...

Last night, millions tuned into the 2024 Super Bowl. As has become a capitalist tradition, even people who aren't football fans watched the big game just to see all of the big new commercials, man of which feature some of the biggest stars in Hollywood. In addition to new trailers for upcoming blockbusters like "Deadpool and Wolverine" and "Twisters," there were also some hilarious commercials with Ben Affleck forming a hip-hop group with Matt Damon for Dunkin and Arnold Schwarzenegger reuniting with his "Twins" co-star Danny DeVito for State Farm insurance. But none of those ads were the most watched on YouTube during Super Bowl Sunday.
You might be asking yourself, if everyone is watching the Super Bowl, how do you determine the most watched commercial? Well, according to Variety, this is based on YouTube's own viewing stats that it measured worldwide on gameday, starting February 11 from 12:00am Et until...

The Superb Owl is more than just a big sports event. It is a time to relish in spectacle, be it a half-time music show where SpongeBob makes jokes about Leonardo DiCaprio, Netflix potentially releasing a previously unknown movie all of a sudden, and, of course, flashy trailers and big commercials galore.
One of the biggest commercials of this year's Super Bowl reunited Arnold Schwarzenegger with his "Twins" and "Junior" co-star Danny DeVito to promote State Farm Insurance. The ad shows Schwarzenegger shooting a film within a film, a commercial for State Farm wherein the former governor of California rushes out of a burning house while rescuing two dogs. Then a director yells cut and consistently chastises Arnold for the way he pronounces the word "neighbor" with his Austrian accent. The solution? Hire DeVito to co-star in the ad and correct Schwarzenegger's pronunciation.

Super Bowl Lviii is in the books, and with the big game comes the big game TV spots for upcoming anticipated films. Viewers were able to get a peek at trailers for Kung Fu Panda 4, Deadpool & Wolverine, Wicked, If, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Twisters and more. In addition to movie ads, Super Bowl commercials would feature traditional cameos from various notable names. In a T-Mobile ad, the cast of Suits would reunite along with several other appearances by Academy Award hopeful Bradley Cooper, Common, Donald Faison and Zach Braff. State Farm pulled out a big gun with Arnold Schwarzenegger starring in a fictional action movie and playing on his accent in a joke that resembled a classic Simpsons gag.

Advertisers who normally use the Super Bowl to create commercials that make your jaw drop instead were content if they could get just a little smile.
For the second consecutive year, Madison Avenue relied on a massive parade of celebrities to capture consumer attention, foregoing in many cases the social messages and dynamic creative concepts that have generated chatter in the past. Where the Super Bowl was once the setting for Apple’s still-talked-about “1984” commercial or Procter & Gamble’s clever insertion of Tide into a bevy of ads, it’s now become a place for formulaic cameos of famous faces.
“It’s like a celebrity arms race,” says Simon Bruyn, executive creative director at Mother, an independent agency. “It’s like one celebrity isn’t enough.”

Kevin Miles feels he has nothing to offer. The actor lets that slip less than five minutes after we meet when I ask him why he doesn’t do many interviews. We’re walking to a sports bar a dozen blocks south of Radio City Music Hall, where he’s about to go see comedian Matt Rife, his old neighbor and friend, perform. Miles is dressed in a light gray Alo overcoat, a black Fear of God tee and black Jordans. A pearl necklace with a buskin charm, a replica of one worn by his actress great-grandmother, swings around his neck. It’s all very Los Angeles-guy-in-New York, which he is.

Everyone watches the Super Bowl, but for media industry veterans it has come to be seen as an almost holy experience in a world of continuing atomization and linear decline.
With ratings ebbing and business models crumbling, last year’s edition registered the largest audience of any TV event in history, with 115.1 million viewers (albeit with the caveat of revised Nielsen methodology). This year’s matchup on Sunday, February 11, between the San Francisco 49ers and the Taylor Swift-enhanced Kansas City Chiefs could somehow make the big game even bigger. On the corporate front, it will undoubtedly provide a morale boost at Paramount Global, which will reap hundreds of millions of much-needed dollars from the telecast as questions swirl about its future.

Two-thirds of Peacock’s 22 million subscribers have watched a recent Universal theatrical film, the NBCUniversal streaming service announced at its NewFronts presentation Tuesday.
Emphasizing the value to advertisers of the pay-1 window for Universal films, the company told ad buyers in the audience that 95% of viewers expressed a favorable opinion of the ad experience during movies. Fresh releases generally have only pre-roll ads and then stream without commercial interruption. The new pay-1 setup came about last year when Universal’s output deal with HBO reached its end and NBCU, like all media players, re-examined its pay-1 strategy in light of streaming.
The NewFronts event unfolded against a rancorous backdrop as WGA members set up a picket line on Fifth Avenue just outside of the venue, forcing attendees to weave their way through hundreds of picketers. On the corporate front, NBCU is also regrouping after the sudden ouster of former CEO Jeff Shell.

When viewers watching the Feb. 12 Super Bowl stick around for the always anticipated commercial breaks, they may find a bit more than they bargained for.
With the advertising market in a downturn (Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said Nov. 15 it was “very weak” and worse than it was during Covid-19 amid a brief, broader pullback), marketers are increasingly looking for partners to mitigate rising costs and to help them stand out on the biggest TV advertising day of the year.
So when Will Ferrell needs to escape a swarm of zombies from the universe of Netflix’s Army of the Dead in the second quarter, he will do so in a General Motors electric pickup truck. While making his hosting debut on last week’s Saturday Night Live, Michael B. Jordan, 35, reminded everyone in his monologue that he is now single. He refrained from mentioning his ex Lori Harvey explicitly, but he admitted that he went through a public breakup.
The couple split in June 2022 after more than a year of dating.
“Most people after a breakup are like, ‘I’m going to get in better shape.’ But I was already in Creed shape!” the actor said, referring to the upcoming boxing film, Creed III, that he both directed and starred in.
The actor said he instead sorted through his feelings by learning a new language, and later told the audience in Spanish that he’s on Raya, a celebrity dating app.
SNL cast members Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, Punkie Johnson and Ego Nwodim notified Jordan that they were definitely interested.

This March, we'll get to see how Michael B. Jordan fares with his feature directorial debut when "Creed III" hits theaters. But a little over a month before that, Jordan has made his hosting debut at "Saturday Night Live."
Though Jordan has mostly stuck to more dramatic and action-oriented roles on the big screen, he's shown a hint of his comedic abilities with "That Awkward Moment" alongside Zac Efron and Miles Teller and a hilarious cameo in "Space Jam: A New Legacy." But thankfully, Jordan was more than willing to have plenty of fun when he took the stage at Studio 8H. Whether it was sloppy physical comedy, making fun of himself, appearing as Creed alongside a recurring character, or hilariously failing in an attempt at a Dominican accent, Jordan helped usher in one of the better episodes in the 48th season of "SNL."

Michael B. Jordan is single, and the cast of "Saturday Night Live" was really hoping he was ready to mingle during his hosting debut on Jan. 28. The "Creed III" star kicked off the show with an opening monologue where he appeared to reference his breakup from Lori Harvey only to be hit on by the show's female cast members including Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim, and Punkie Johnson.
"My name is Michael B. Jordan, but tonight, Michael B. Hosting. Michael B. Nervous. Michael B. Vulnerable. But Michael will be aiight," Jordan said at the start of his monologue. "Because Michael B. in therapy."
From there, the actor segued into sharing a clip from his early TV role on "All My Children" before seemingly referencing his breakup. "That was 2003, and now, 20 years later, I just directed my very first movie, 'Creed III.' But right after that, I went...

Saturday Night Live put a horror movie twist on one of TV’s most unavoidable spokesmen as host Michael B. Jordan played Jake From State Farm in a sketch where he takes his promise of 24/7 insurance coverage way too far.
The pre-recorded sketch starts innocuously enough with the daughter of parents Mikey Day and Heidi Gardner flushing her stuffed animals down the toilet. Luckily, Jake From State Farm happens to be on-scene to provide his home insurance coverage.
However, Jake is still there at dinnertime… and the next morning. He...

That Jake from State Farm seems like a nice boy, doesn’t he? Well, not after this he won’t. This week’s Saturday Night Live host Michael B. Jordan skewers the beloved insurance spokesman in a commercial parody that goes from fun to frightening in pretty short order.

Michael B. Jordan donned a State Farm polo for a hilarious “Saturday Night Live” video short as not-so-good neighbor Jake, who first shows up to demonstrate the insurance company’s app for a family and then refuses to leave.
Jordan’s Jake first shows up to help the family file a claim to fix their toilet after their daughter clogs it with stuffed animals, and then he slowly becomes a part of the family unit.
As the father, played by Mikey Day, comes home to discover State Farm is “here for you 24/7” and Jake is still there playing with the kids, Day is stuck making a sandwich while his family gets pizza with the studly insurance spokesman. Jake then continues to assimilate into the family unit, bringing Gardner and the kids to church on Sunday morning, causing a fight between the two spouses.

There’s a whole lot of ugly in the lead-up to Kate and Toby’s decision to end their marriage, and Tuesday’s This Is Us shows it all.

But the episode also offers flashes of what the future of ‘KaToby’ looks like, and most of that is pretty happy and backs up the idea that these two just weren’t meant to be together forever. We were this close to getting a Marvel TV show featuring Squirrel Girl, and it could’ve been one of their most heartfelt adventures.
“Back in 2017, Marvel started developing New Warriors, another Marvel superhero series centered on a team of young adults, with the cable network Freeform. Though the project never made it past the pilot stage and had been officially shuttered by 2019, showrunner Kevin Biegel (Cougar Town) is finally opening up about what was meant to be.”

Will Dexter be able to redeem itself from the disappointment of the previous series finale?
“The beloved series starring Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan, forensic technician by day and avenging serial killer by night, was on a downward slope in later seasons, but truly fumbled the finale by killing off fan-favorite character Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) and seeing Dexter abandon his son Harrison to be a lumberjack in a remote town.

(Updated with video of The Weeknd’s Super Bowl halftime performance) Roaring out of a Super Bowl Lv first half today that saw the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and quarterback Tom Brady battering favorites the Kansas City Chiefs 21-6, The Weeknd’s halftime show had a lot riding on it for the NFL, CBS and an America trampled and exhausted by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and a year of political and social unrest.

In fact, it is a term used mostly by B-movie and grindhouse enthusiasts in internet forums. The cultural revolution of the 1960s fought against social conservatism and war, and the cinema of the time depicted these tensions with films bearing messages of the dangers of revolution and hallucinogens. In its most basic definition, these films live within the realm of the exploitation genre and heavily feature LSD and hippies. The films depict the various trips experienced by characters, on a scale of positive to negative. In the wake of the Manson murders in 1969, the media amplified...

Moving away from regular horror, Bollywood is lately warming up to the idea of serving scares with a spot of humour. The horror comedy as a genre is suddenly in vogue among mainstream Hindi filmmakers.
The genre existed in the Hindi film industry for ages -- the old classic "Bhoot Bangla" and recent releases such as "Bhul Bhulaiyaa", "Bhootnath", "Go Goa Gone" and "Stree" come to mind. These films, however, were one-off cases. What is happening now is that Bollywood filmmakers have suddenly taken interest in the genre of horror comedy in a way that it seems like the genre is here to stay. Importantly, the new crop of films serve the funny scares with a new-age spin and a message.
We look at a few horror comedy films that are all set to hit the screens.
Bhoot Police
The film stars Saif Ali Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Yami Gautam and Arjun Kapoor.

The film stars Saif Ali Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Yami Gautam and Arjun Kapoor.

Covid-19 made cinemas a petri dish for viral transmission. But their closure doesn’t mean that big screen entertainment is completely dead. The drive-in theatre, that quintessential piece of Americana, is having a rare moment in the spotlight. Here, audiences can maintain social distancing by enjoying the movie from their vehicles.
The only problem is that there are no new films coming out to screen, so we’ve seen some revivals of classics. Last month, Sam Raimi’s horror pic The Evil Dead began screening at various drive-in theaters and proved such a hit that the run has been expanded.
The highlights are gala screenings taking place at the Midway Drive-In Theater in Dixon, Il on Friday July 10th and Saturday July 11th. Bloody Disgusting are reporting that the Friday show will see a double bill of Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn and Army of Darkness, while Saturday will...

Disney has long worked to entertain kids and families. Now it’s planning a new kind of show for Madison Avenue.
Every year, as part of TV’s annual “upfront” ad-sales showcase, the company takes to Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall and tries to woo media buyers and marketers with a show about its next programming season. ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel is typically involved. With the spread of coronavirus, however, all the major U.S. media companies have canceled the glitzy showcases in favor of streaming-video presentations.
Where rivals are planning a day or two of showcases that everyone in the business can see at once, Disney plans several days of presentations during the weeks of May 25 and June 1, tailored to each of of the industry’s biggest media-buying shops, says Rita Ferro, president of Disney Advertising Sales, in an interview. “These are a little more customized and intimate,...
