Fred Gallo, a former assistant director on a slew of classic 1970s pictures who went on to become the president of production at Paramount, has died. He was 78 years old.

The Hollywood titan, who had worked on Oscar-winning gems like “The Godfather,” “Annie Hall” and “Rocky,” died on Sept. 7 at his Santa Ynez Valley home.

His family confirmed his passing, while Lee Rosenthal called him a “singular force in the industry.” Paramount and Nickolodean’s president of worldwide physical production said, in a statement obtained by TheWrap, that “beneath a formidable exterior was a big-hearted, one-man masterclass in filmmaking and production management.”

“Some of the most iconic movies of our time — ‘The Godfather,’ ‘Rocky’ and ‘Annie Hall,’ to name a few — are imprinted with Fred’s artistry,” Rosenthal stated. “He was a vestige of a time and place in Hollywood history, an early champion of inclusivity and a mentor to many.

Fred Gallo, who served as an assistant director on films including the Oscar best picture winners The Godfather, Rocky and Annie Hall before becoming a top production executive at Paramount Pictures, has died. He was 78.

Gallo died Sept. 7 after a long illness at his home in the Santa Ynez Valley, his family announced.

Gallo also earned producing credits on Floyd Mutrux’s American Hot Wax (1978), Martin Brest’s Going in Style (1979), James Caan’s Hide in Plain Sight (1980) and Lawrence Kasdan’s Body Heat (1981).

After a run as a production vice president at Warner Bros., Gallo joined Paramount in 1993. He was promoted to executive vp feature production management in 1996 and worldwide president of features production management in 2001, overseeing day-to-day physical production for the studio through his retirement in 2005.

“Fred was a singular force in the industry,” Lee Rosenthal, president of worldwide physical production for Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon, said in a statement.

Lou Alexander, a comedian who worked the national nightclub circuit in the U.S. and Canada in the 1950s and 1960s before becoming an agent and manager, died earlier this month in Beverly Hills. He was 91 and no details on the cause were available, according to his friend, Jeremy Vernon.

Alexander grew up as the son of a burlesque comedian who worked the Catskills in the heyday of the famed “Borscht Belt.” Young Lou became part of the act at age 10, joining him in skits.

Later, teaming with high school friend Howard Storm – who went on to direct the films Bananas, Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Sex But Were Afraid To Ask, and Take The Money and Run – they worked the comedy circuit as Storm and Gale, playing rooms in the Miami area and building a cult following among national comedians who were impressed with their burlesque routines.

Longrunning MTV reality competition series The Challenge has pumped out several seasons of the competition show, including spinoffs, in the past year. The winningest player, Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio, admitted the popularity of the series might be at risk of “burning out” due to the seemingly endless stream of content.

In the past year, The Challenge has filmed season 38’s Ride or Dies and international spinoffs The Challenge: USA, Argentina, Australia, and UK. Additionally, another season of All Stars and USA is reportedly in the works.

Some viewers are starting to believe it’s too much content as they haven’t watched the Paramount+ hosted spinoffs, and seven-time champ Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio seems to agree.

The Challenge champ Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio, didn’t make much of an appearance in the premiere episode of World Championship. He recently addressed his absence during his podcast, admitting he fell ill but downplayed it.

Seven-time champ Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio usually gives the opening toast when the cast initially moves into the house. During the Paramount+ hosted spinoff World Championship, the longstanding competitor hopped on a table and gave his staple toast.

However, his voice sounded much different. After the premiere aired, Bananas dropped an episode on his podcast, Death, Taxes, and Bananas, alongside teammate Justine Ndiba where he acknowledged his voice change.

They also had deals in place to sabotage other teams, ultimately leading to them facing each other in the final stage, where he and partner Tori Deal came out on top.

Following his win, Devin returned to the Challenge Mania podcast and explained it made sense to work with Bananas because not many other teams want to pair up with him due to his success in the finals.

MTV’s The Challenge Season 38 has officially ended after the final three teams endured the 100-hour final. Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio hoped to attain a win with Nany González by his side. Unfortunately, the duo came in second place to Tori Deal and Devin Walker, which wasn’t the ending they hoped for. And Johnny gave an excuse as to why he might never win another season.

The Challenge legend Johnny Bananas recently reacted to tweets from The Challenge: USA star Tyson Apostol, who made serious claims about his abilities in the competition series.

Tyson, a winner during CBS’ Survivor, currently appears on a CBS spinoff version of the popular MTV show. Throughout the show’s episodes, he’s displayed that he has a solid grasp of the game.

It’s led to him suggesting he would fare well against some of the MTV competition series’ all-time greats, which got Bananas firing back on Twitter.

Bananas, who won on seven seasons of the MTV show, first responded to a fans’ tweet commenting about The Challenge: USA spinoff.

"Kiss Me...Kill Me" stars Stella Stevens as Stella Stafford, an L.A-based investigator for the District Attorney's office. She is assigned to an especially disturbing murder case involving Maureen Coyle...

Part fan-fiction, part cosplay, part “What if David Lynch and Amy Sedaris collaborated on a kinda-sorta biopic of Celine Dion,” “Aline” is like nothing you’ve ever seen. And more often than not, that’s a good thing.

Director-star Valérie Lemercier demonstrates a staggering amount of chutzpah in crafting a Celine Dion movie that renames the main character “Aline Dieu” and for taking on the role herself: The fifty-something filmmaker plays the title character from age 7 onward, and while she has a background as a comedian, she dares you not to take this story, or her performance, seriously.

In an era where recent Oscar wins for “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” and “King Richard” means we’re looking at another decade of earnest biopics with grandstanding lead roles, Lemercier (who won a César for Best Actress) throws down the gauntlet with this weird and wonderful portrait of an artist.

One of actor/comedian Bob Hope’s most cherished films is Monsieur Beaucaire, a 1946 remake of a Rudolph Valentino silent picture from 1924, both of which are based on a 1900 novel by Booth Tarkington. Hope’s version, directed by George Marshall, is certainly a loose adaptation because it turned what was a historical romantic drama into a flat-out comedy.

Woody Allen has been known to cite early Bob Hope movies as an inspiration for his onscreen persona in the director’s early “zany” comedies like Bananas and Sleeper. When one views something like Monsieur Beaucaire or My Favorite Blonde (1942), the comparison is strikingly apt. Hope creates a persona of nervous mannerisms, lack of self confidence masked by bravado, clumsy but endearing interaction with the opposite sex, and witty one-liners.
