This is the first film by director Marcel Hanoun to be shown commercially, after Le huitième jour (1960).
In the opening titles one can read "un film de Marcel Hanoun & Catherine Binet" (a film by Marcel Hanoun & Catherine Binet). There was an intense collaboration on the script.
Two pieces of music are very present in the film. A flute version of the Dance of the Blessed Spirits from the Orfeo & Euridice from C.W. Glück, and De la crudel morte de Christo (La Crocifissione) from the 13th century (anonymous) Laudario di Cortona, recorded in 1962 by the Societa Cameristica di Lugano under direction of Edwin Loehrer.
