In 1916, while Europe was in the middle of First World War , Spain was peacefully living and efficiently developing itself thanks to European exports ; there eroticism was called voluptuousness shown in the Musical Revistas and Cabarets . In San Sebastián spends his summer the aristocrat Marqués de Corbina (Manuel Gil) , despite his ancient lineage, he fell completely in love with a famous cabaret singer, Rosario "La Criollita" (Emma Cohen) , which was a real scandal . But then , once married Corbina results to be his father , Senator Duke of Daroca (Fernando Fernán Gómez) , who falls deeply in love for her . At that time, it was doubted that decent women had legs . But this situation was resolved a decade later, when the roaring twenties arrived , and , with them, the sensual Lupe Cardoso (Laura Valenzuela) , Doña Ramona's daughter (Isabel Garcés) , who eventually becomes a successful vedette . During these years Europe disputes its WWI and Spain enjoys the advantages of being a neutral country . Around the Duke de Daroka , a gallery of characters reconstructs the representative society of those days when a woman's ankle was an erotic spectacle . Throughout the film several historical events unfold, including a newsreel that explains the events of the time such as the Spanish revolt of 1917, the Russian revolution, the American Ku Klux Klan, the dictatorship of Miguel Primo de Rivera .
Pierna creciente, falda menguante (English : Pierna creciente, falda menguante (Growing Leg, Diminishing Skirt ) is a 1970 Spanish musical comedy film directed by Javier Aguirre and starring Laura Valenzuela, Fernando Fernán Gómez and Emma Cohen. The film is divided into two parts, the first is starring Emma Cohen as the singer Rosario 'La Criollita' , she is one of the main stars of a cabaret in San Sebastián , while Duke of Daroca is madly in love with this singer while he spends the summer in touristic town. Ten years later , there appears Guadalupe Cardoso 'Lupe': Laura Valenzuela who dances Charleston and Foxtrop , she is so modern and unaware that she prefers a degree in chemical sciences to the jewels given by Duke Daroca who's in love again . It is a nice film of acceptable humor, with a parody of the upper classes , their snobbery , aristocratic duels and a satire of the happy roaring twenties . It is full of frivolity , duplicity , and deceits , but it turns out to be an agreeable and passable comedy with some sparkles , mayhem and madness enough. Set in 1916, when Europe was in the middle of the First World War, Spain enjoyed the advantages of being a neutral country , one of them was being able to enjoy the eroticism , mirth and magic of cabarets . There are various spectacular and luminous musical numbers well performed by Emma Cohen and Laura Valenzuela in Cabaret , Spanish Revista and theatrical style. The film is nicely set in what was known as the Roaring Twenties , some happy years after the first great war in which fun , revelry and the desire to live were the common behavior of the people of the upper , bourgeoisie and lower classes. These were the years in which modern dances were all the rage and the frenetic rhythm of the days passed vertiginously and as some old and traditional customs remain completely outdated , so some habits that years before seemed immovable have radically changed. Along with main actors : Fernán Gómez , Valenzuela , Cohen , all of them giving sympathetic acting , showing up here and there a lot of familar faces , a great plethora of notorious secondaries who fit perfectly to their secondary roles , such as : Isabel Garcés, José Sacristán, Manuel Gil, Enriqueta Carballeira , Elena María Tejeiro, Don Jaime de Mora y Aragón, Mayrata O'Wisiedo, Álvaro de Luna , Fabián Conde, José Manuel Cervino, Beni Deus , Lali Soldevilla, Yolanda Rios, José Manuel Cervino, Lola Gaos, José Jaspe, Manuel Alexandre, Manolo Gómez Bur , Barta Barri , Blaki , José Franco , Adriano Dominguez .
The film was written and financed with budget enough by great producer José Luis Dibildos (Laura Valenzuela's husband) and was professionally directed by Javier Aguirre . Being amusingly made by this prolific filmmaker Javier Aguirre (his big hits were El Astronauta , El Jorobado De La Morgue , Monja Alférez) . Javier was a craftsman , expert on comedies such as : ¨El Astronauta¨, ¨Los Que Tocan El Piano¨ , ¨Locuras De Parchis¨ , ¨Los Chicos Con Las Chicas¨, ¨Soltero Y Padre En la Vida¨, ¨Soltera Y Madre En La Vida¨, ¨Rocky Carambola¨, ¨Martes Y Trece¨. Aguirre also made quite a few terror , frightening movies , such as : ¨Gran Amor Conde Drácula¨, ¨Jorobado De La Morgue¨, ¨Vida Perra¨, ¨Asesino Está En Sus Trece¨. In addition , he directed various ¨Avant Garde¨ films . Here Aguirre carries out a decent , nimble and professional direction , though including some flaws and gaps . Rating : 6/10.
