The Out of Towners is a total delight.

It is the closest the sound film has come to recapturing the genius of the silent movie chase comedy.

While it's implausible that all of these mishaps would befall a couple in 24 hours, none of these occurrences is beyond the realm of belief, and Simon has cleverly strung them together in one of his best screenplays.

Neil Simon cranks out this kind of fluff before breakfast, but it is enjoyable.

Because Simon is dealing with a place — and a commonplace — rather than people, it is only too easy to see the jokes coming long before they arrive. We feel the boredom of anticipation rather than the shock of recognition, and sometimes the jokes themselves ring false.
