Robert Reed did "Barefoot on the Park" on Broadway and wanted to star in the TV version. When they decided to make the cast all African-American, he ended up doing The Brady Bunch (1969) instead, much to his dismay.
Scoey Mitchell was fired due to creative differences, and the network decided to cancel the series rather then recast the part.
