Although the subject of many comedic plots, vanishing cream simply means the cream vanishes into the skin when applied, leaving it feeling softer. In other words, it's a moisturizer. Cold cream, on the other hand, didn't disappear, but was used in face packs or to remove make up.
Last appearance of George, a co-owner of Tom who had been introduced in the 1950s. His wife Joan would make her last appearance in "Tot Watchers" (1958).
The attention to the smallest of background details in this short is a hallmark of cartoons from this era, as they were still largely being shown in cinemas as part of a movie program. The fireplace andirons and logs are just one wonderful example. Adult moviegoers appreciated this kind of detail.
