Brit Turner, the drummer and a founding member of the Southern rock & roll band Blackberry Smoke, died Sunday. He was 57. Bruce Springsteen has announced a new best-of collection, which coincides with the launch of his latest leg of tour dates on April 19th.

Aptly titled Best of Bruce Springsteen, the 18-song collection will be available as a 1xCD and 2xLP set. A special “Jersey Devil” vinyl color variant will be available exclusively through Amazon (pre-order here).

The career-spanning tracklist includes Springsteen classics such as “Rosalita (Come Out Tonight),” “Thunder Road,” Badlands,” “Dancing in the Dark,” and “The Ghost of Tom Joad,” alongside newer songs such as “Hello Sunshine” and “Letter To You.”

An expanded 31-song digital release will also be available on April 19th.

Thunder Road is headed into space after acquiring the movie rights to iconic sci-fi writer Ray Bradbury’s short story Frost and Fire.

Kristina Buozyte and Bruno Samper are attached to direct the feature film adaptation based on a script written by Doug Simon. Frost and Fire follows the intrepid young pilot of a space mining mission who finds himself scrambling to survive after crash-landing on a mysterious planet where life moves at a frighteningly accelerated pace.

The eerie short story explores how seminal values, emotions and relationships are affected when a person’s life spans only eight days. Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee will produce the movie adaptation for Thunder Road, while Charlie Morrison, Will Flynn and Mahal Sourgose will executive produce.

Exclusive: Lionsgate’s John Wick spinoff Ballerina starring Ana de Armas will be delayed a year from June 7, 2024 to June 6, 2025. The move comes as John Wick architect Chad Stahelski has inked a new deal with Lionsgate to oversee the franchise. He’s working with Ballerina director Len Wiseman on additional action sequences for the movie, to amp it up even more than it is.

Oscar-nominated actor Dev Patel is making his directorial debut with the action-packed revenge tale “Monkey Man,” which is being theatrically released by Universal Pictures on April 5. Jordan Peele produces the movie through his Monkeypaw Productions, and the film got its first trailer Friday morning.

Patel stars in the movie as Kid, “an anonymous young man who ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he is beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash,” according to the release. The film is inspired by the legend of Hanuman, a deity in Hinduism.

The logline says, “After years of suppressed rage, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him.

The action thriller Monkey Man, starring Dev Patel in his feature directing debut, is now getting a release via Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw and its deal at Universal. In more good news for exhibition, the movie will hit theaters on April 5.

Monkey Man originally was set up at Netflix in 2021, but Peele had the opportunity to see the movie immediately was taken by Patel’s vision and felt the film deserved a big-screen release.

Monkey Man follows one man’s quest for vengeance against the corrupt leaders who murdered his mother and continue to systemically victimize the poor and powerless. Crime thriller “The Last Stop in Yuma County” has unveiled its first clip.

Riz Ahmed and Lily James are joining forces for the contemporary thriller “Relay,” which will be presented to buyers at European Film Market in Berlin.

David Mackenzie, who helmed the Oscar-nominated “Hell or High Water,” will direct from a script he wrote with Justin Piasecki. Production begins in New York and New Jersey in April 2023.

“Relay” stars Ahmed as Tom, a “fixer” whose specialty is brokering major payoffs between corrupt corporations and the individuals who threaten to ruin them. He’s careful to keep his identity hidden, until a potential client named Sarah (James) seeks his protection in order to stay alive.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are five shows into their 2023 world tour, and they’ve just rolled out dates for a series of late summer stadium shows in North America, followed by arena dates later in the year. The new leg kicks off Aug. 9 at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois, and wraps up Dec. 8 at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California. Ticket on-sales begin this Friday.

Writer-director-actor Jim Cummings’ has already made two films, Thunder Road and The Wolf of Snow Hollow, which were very well received on the American indie circuit. His latest, The Beta Test, co-written and directed with its co-star Pj McCabe, is part delicious satire of Hollywood culture and part frustratingly muddled thriller. But the good bits are sufficiently impressive it wouldn’t be fair to hold its flaws against it too much. We mustn’t be greedy for perfection.

Greed, as it happens, is probably the major sin of a Tinseltown agent called Jordan (played by Cummings), followed closely by lust, wrath, pride and envy. Given his rigorously gym-toned figure it would seem that Jordan is less guilty of gluttony or sloth, but there’s probably more than enough...

In 1961, a 14-year-old Steven Spielberg produced and directed one of this first short films, the ominously named “Escape to Nowhere.” In the opening sequence to the movie, a title card reads “Produced and Directed by Steve Spielberg” before one of the first shots that states the setting is “Somewhere in East Africa.”

There is no dialogue in the two-minute clip that has surfaced online, just battle scenes that play to the sound of Richard Wagner’s “Ride of the Valkyries.” (Something tells us Spielberg was not able to license the rights to the music.) Spielberg’s sister Anne Spielberg is the only person credited in the cast on IMDb, which states that the entire short is 40 minutes long.

Exclusive: Director of Oscar-nominated documentary set for war biopic produced by Charlize Theron’s Denver & Delilah and Thunder Road.

Cartel Land director Matthew Heineman has been tapped to direct Charlize Theron-produced biopic Marie Colvin, about the eponymous Us war correspondent who died in 2012 while covering the Syrian conflict.

Basil Iwanyk’s Thunder Road Pictures is producing the prestige package with Theron’s Denver & Delilah Productions and What Maisie Knew executive-producer Marissa McMahon.

Screen understands that the production could get underway at the end of the year however there is still no official word on whether Theron will also take on the lead role in the film, something she has done on most films produced by Denver & Delilah to date, including Aileen Wuornos biopic Monster, for which Theron won an Oscar.

Deadline reports that Thunder Road Pictures — the company behind movies like The Town and Sicario — has acquired a spec script titled Trigger Warning that's described as a female-led mix between Rambo and another Thunder Road action thriller, John Wick, in which "the reluctant heroine reveals herself in a small town."

A History of Violence writer Josh Olson and The Game scribe John Brancato (who also penned Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and Terminator Salvation) wrote the script. As the outlet points out, gender-bent twists on traditional plots are en vogue right now with Ghostbusters and the upcoming Ocean's Eight, so this fits in alongside those pretty well. I just hope Ronda Rousey doesn't end up starring in it. I'd love to see someone with some legitimate acting ability take on a role like this (sorry, Ronda).

The film is an original action tale with a female hero at its centre – and its development ensures the chance of women-oriented stories beyond the planned remakes and re-boots of male-led movies.

Little is known about the specific plot of Trigger Warning but, unsurprisingly, it is described in broad terms through comparison to well-known male-led movies. This is almost unavoidable, since the genre has historically been dominated by male-centric tales and so, Trigger Warning is characterised as a female Rambo: First Blood, with a dash of John Wick thrown in.

Tilda Cobham-Hervey is joining Dev Patel and Armie Hammer in Hotel Mumbai, a film about the 2008 attacks on the Taj Mahal hotel.

The script was co-written by Hopscotch's John Collee (Happy Feet, Master and Commander) and South Australian Anthony Maras, who will direct.

The four-day siege on the hotel killed 160 people, with many more injured.

"John Wick" and "Sicario" producers Thunder Road are assembling the action thriller "Smoke on the Water" which Basil Iwanyk and Kent Kubena will produce.

The script by Trey Callaway ("I Still Know What You Did Last Summer") and Rick Parks ("Ever After") deals with the worlds of offshore boat racing, high-tech open water drug trafficking and the so-called 'nautical narcotic highway' from Cuba to Key West.

The film has more of a "Fast and Furious" than "Sicario"-style tone of energetic and fun action, and will reportedly make good use of the still cinematically untapped world of Cuba as a filming location.

Thunder Road is currently developing "Gang Story" with Liam Neeson, "A Star is Born" with Bradley Cooper and "Splinter Cell" with Tom Hardy.
