The film was shot on location in California's Sierra Nevada mountain range, Lone Pine and Death Valley.
In post-production due to a musicians strike, MGM used generic music cues culled from several syndicated television shows. There was a score composed by Bronislau Kaper that went unused.
This film was a mild success at the box office, earning MGM a profit of $87,000 according to studio records. It was particularly popular outside of North America, where it brought in about two-thirds of its revenue.
