Magic how Giulietta Masina fills the screen, only she, unique in the history of cinema! This movie deserves over 10 stars, not only 6.9. Alberto Sordi is absolute phenomenal, comic like him no longer existed and will no longer exist. Paul Douglas is funny. Eduardo De Filippo, who also directs the film, is funny too. The funniest scene is the one with the newborn baby thrown into the well several times during the play. Funny scene also when the fat Franca Marzi falls into the pit at night in the cemetery. And, another funny one, the scene in the ring when the rather crazy teacher played by Paul Douglas goes to fight catch and is tickled when the referee touches him. Nino Rota's music
is superb and we find the theme which he'll use also in "The Godfather" by Francis Ford Coppola. Great film, to be watched again and again.
