When a bunch of bad guys chase Rudy and the sheriff at about 30 minutes, they injure the latter and then ride past them for no reason. That gives Rudy time to shelter the sheriff behind a convenient rock. Then Rudy's previously-confiscated pistol suddenly appears in his hand, allowing him to shoot two and chase off the rest.
