Love with the Proper Stranger is based on a screenplay by American screenwriter Arnold Schulman, who then wrote a novel based on his own screenplay.
"Come here, Louie - I got a new kind of experiment," Rocky Papasano (Steve McQueen) says to Angie Rossini (Natalie Wood). Earlier in the film, Angie had refered to their sexual encounter as an "experiment", and Rocky called her Louis Pasteur. This scene refers back to that comment with a "new experiment".
In all, there are 46 photos, including two in the bathroom and one in a newspaper ad that's open on the couch.
Angie invites Rocky to her apartment and makes dinner for him, but all they do is argue until Angie finally throws Rocky out. The next day when Angie gets out of work, she hears bells jingling and a banjo being strummed and notices a crowd gathered around a sign that says "Better wed than dead". It turns out to be Rocky. Angie starts to walk away, but Rocky follows her. As they cross the street, Rocky drops his sign and banjo, takes Angie into his arms, and kisses her.
