Don´t miss this one!

Oh, I couldn´t believe my eyes when I found that there was even a page made for Komisario Palmu (or should I say inspector Palm, heh) movies! A Finnish movie from the 60s, doesn´t sound interesting, huh? But I must say these films are absolutely, utterly WONDERFUL! Great, natural, funny, talented actors; delightful, realistic, comedic plot. "Tähdet kertovat, komisario Palmu" is possibly my favourite among the Palmu-films. Leo Jokela is symphatic and adds laughs, Helge Herala is fantasticly disgusting as the major, Esko Salminen is candy for your eye and all the actors do wonderful jobs. I never, ever get tired of these movies, honestly! They make you laugh and they simply aren´t dated though are old. This and all the other "Palms" are BEST Finnish movies ever!

Another case to crack for Inspector Palmu

Ms. Alli Pelkonen's terrier finds a body from Tähtitorninmäki, that's thought to be a wino at first. But Inspector Palmu knows a little better. And yes, it was a murder.Tähdet Kertovat, Komisario Palmu (1962) is directed by Matti Kassila, as were all of these movies. This is the third Inspector Palmu movie.Mika Waltari worked on the script, and after that he came up with the novel, which I just finished reading. Both the book and the movie are great. There are some differences between those two, which is not a problem, of course.Joel Rinne does his Inspector Palmu once again brilliantly.Same thing with Matti Ranin as Toivo Virta.Leo Jokela makes a fantastic Kokki again.Esko Salminen is great as Ville Valkonen.Maija-Leena Soinne is wonderful as his sweetheart Saara Pohjanvuori.Helge Herala is quite amazing as Major Carl Gustav Vadenblick. His son Jarkko Herala, who died tragically at a young age, plays the son in his sole film role.Aino Mantsas does great work as Mrs. Annika Vadenblick.Pentti Siimes is superb as Journalist Nopsanen. You've got to like Pia Hattara as Ms. Alli Pelkonen.Sointu Angervo plays Chick.Pentti Irjala is Drunk.Armas Jokio plays the part of Detective.Ari Laine plays Policeman Alpio.Antti Litja is Son of Jakkarala.Tapani Perttu is Youngster in his debut movie. As Fredrik Nordberg is seen a certain Vilho Kekkonen, a tenor who's 103 years old today. This is the last movie he's done. This movie is 50 years old now, but it isn't dated. In this movie the humor works, as does the suspense part.I really enjoyed the scenes with Helge Herala. He makes a fantastic villain, a very right wing-type.All these first three Palmu movies are classics you should not miss.

Tiresome whodunit

This is the third entry in the Finnish "Inspector Palmu" film series, and the title character feels almost relegated to a supporting role (his assistant in the first two films has been promoted as his superior). Besides, the actor himself, Joel Rinne, looks tired as well. The most notable of the "new" characters is an obvious Hitler caricature, infamous "mustache" included. The only real spark in the movie comes from a voluptuous young girl - but she appears in two scenes only. The three detectives take so long to solve the not-particularly-puzzling case that the film becomes more of a chore than a pleasure; the fact that we never even meet the murder victim makes it even less worth the trouble. ** out of 4.
