The film was designed to promote the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme (founded by Prince Philip).

It was on this film that Kenneth More, hitherto one of Britain's most well-liked film stars, met Angela Douglas, who was 26 years his junior and who became his third wife some years later, after he had obtained a much-publicized and long-contested divorce. The bad publicity resulting from this did great damage to More's standing in British films.
