Ft. Lauderdale Stadium, where Hutch first tries to meet Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris, opened in 1962 the same year Safe At Home was released.
The film was made after Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle's historic 1961 race to break Babe Ruth's home run record. With about one month left, Maris and Mantle were having quite a contest. Maris had 51 home runs and Mantle had 48. Unfortunately, Mantle, after hitting 54 homers, injured his hip in September in a game in Baltimore, leaving Maris to chase the record by himself. Roger Maris finally broke the record when he hit his 61 home run on October 1, 1961, off of Boston rookie Tracy Stallard.
