The film was produced in two versions. The first, Swiss German, version was released in 1962. The second version, in High German, was released the following year. In order to appeal to German audiences, several of the Swiss stars were replaced by German stars in the second version. The film flopped in both Switzerland and Germany, resulting in losses for both director Kurt Früh (who had invested a lot of his own money in the film) and the production company, Gloriafilm. The losses left Gloriafilm with too little money to continue the preparations for its succeeding film.
