- TriviaArthur Davis's final credit as an animator for Warner Bros. cartoons during the original theatrical era. He had left the studio by June 1960, demanding he be released from his contract because fellow animator Phil Monroe had been promoted as supervisor of the commercials unit instead of him. He freelance directed one more cartoon, Quackodile Tears (1962), as a favor to Friz Freleng while he was working at Hanna Barbera. When Freleng and David H. DePatie started DePatie-Freleng Enterprises, he took a job there, directing many Pink Panther shorts.
- GoofsWhen the villagers flee Sam, they cross a stone bridge to get into the castle. But halfway through the cartoon the bridge has become a wooden drawbridge, and the only part of the bridge that is made of stone is the end nearest the castle.
- Quotes
Sam the Terrible: You better open that gate, Prince Varmint, or I'll bust it down.
- Alternate versionsWhen this cartoon aired on ABC (still retitled as "Prince Varmint"), the aforementioned explosives gag was edited thus: after Sam lights the fuses of the explosives, he manages to cross the still-lowered drawbridge and escape the explosives just before they blow up. However, he still looks much the worse for wear when he enters the castle.

Featured review
Once again, Bugs Bunny gets pitted against Yosemite Sam. Sam is a Viking attempting to raid a village but Bugs foils his plans at every step. I recall reading that Friz Freleng created Sam because he didn't consider Elmer Fudd a formidable opponent for Bugs, so he created the hot-headed cowboy. Sure enough, Sam proved just as incompetent. It was clear that by the time that "Prince Violent" got released, the Looney Tunes had passed their prime, but it's still a hoot to watch Sam's repeated misfortunes (occasionally, they even set up what's about to happen).
So, while it's far from the best cartoon, it's still fun to watch. I suspect that they had fun recording the voices and animating the cartoon.
