William Wellman Jr. said one night he fell asleep in his dressing room while waiting to shoot his part of the ritual scene where the natives were dancing around. He said they didn't use actors. They hired actual natives they found in the jungle. He woke up and was startled to find three of the giggling black native girls in his room. One was holding a candle while another held him down and the third was trying to kiss him. He jumped up and ran out. He never saw those girls again and had no idea why they entered his room.
June Wilkinson's first starring role. She was 19.
The beach scene where June Wilkinson's swimsuit top pops off was only used in the European version but it was still included in the trailer for the US version. A lot of men in the US were upset when they went to see the film just for that scene and it wasn't in the film. It was just Wilkinson in a one-piece swimsuit.
The only film directed by actor Douglas Fowley even though it earned millions of dollars.
