Director Matti Kassila's first impression was that the role of Inspector Palmu would be good for Aku Korhonen, but at the time Korhonen was seriously ill and wasn't available.
First choice to play Väinö Kokki was Uljas Kandolin, but he got bigger theater role and was released. So Leo Jokela replaced him.
