Made using J. Arthur Rank's "Independent Frame" production system (even though it was made by Gainsborough). The system proved to be a costly flop.
Richard Attenborough (Jackie Knowles) later directed Dirk Bogarde (Alfie Rawlins) in Oh! What a Lovely War (1969) and A Bridge Too Far (1977).
Three of the actors appeared in "The Blue Lamp" (1950), where Sir Dirk Bogarde killed Jack Warner, and was caught by Jimmy Hanley.
George Cole was also in the cast, but his role was cut out completely from the final version of the movie.
