Anna Neagle lives in a narrow terrace house, as can be seen from the outside. But on the inside it is enormous, much wider than it could possibly be given the outside dimensions.
Gerald says he will put a bet on a certain horse for Michele, then changes his mind and tells another man, "No, you put it on," and gives him the money. But he does not tell him which horse to back. A little later David asks a lady if she would like a drink. When she says yes, he goes to the bar without asking her what she would like.
Lady Helen insists on going to the Derby even though her husband died just three weeks before, and she knows that her behavior is considered shocking. Two men ask why she is going and she refuses to say. Finally she reveals that her late husband had a horse in the Derby, so she is there to watch it run. This is hardly a discreditable reason, so it is puzzling that she is so secretive. Nor could the fact be kept secret, as she would be publicly listed as the owner, and she must be well known in the racing community. Indeed, when the horse wins, everyone around her in the owners' box applauds, so they must know that she is its owner.
