Beautifully rendered backgrounds of the ideal postwar dream house here, as was common in cartoon shorts produced in this era. They were shown in cinemas to adults as well as children. Adult audiences appreciated the attention to detail and the depiction of the latest products.
Tom uses a bright blue cleaner on the pup, from a spray bottle. Although product placement was still years away, audiences would have recognized the distinctive hue of Windex glass cleaner.
Spike mentions the new concept of sunshine vitamins when settling Tyke for a nap. He's referring to Vitamin D, whose healthful benefits (derived from, for example, exposure to sunlight) had first been discovered in the 1920's.
This cartoon features the second appearance of both Spike and Tyke together since Love That Pup (1949) (although Tyke is referred to as 'Chip').
Spike's phrase "That's my boy!" would also be used by Doggie Daddy in the Hanna-Barbera series "Augie Doggie," which premiered in 1959.
